I played in our invitational silloth at the weekend and it's sparked a question in my head.
When you are on the green you can choose who plays first out of your team. So if player A is on in 2 and player B is on in 3 you can get player B to putt first even if he is closer and secure the 4 so player A can be aggressive for the 3.
But, is there actually anything in place to prevent this being applied beyond the green? So if you are 220 yards back on a tough par 5 can you get your playing partner to play his 3rd shot on so you know he is 2 putts from a par and you can go for it? Or even, in a extreme example could you stand on the tee and watch how your partner does on the hole before making your decision on how you are going to play it out? So watch him play, see that he has a par so trying to drive the green for example?
Just to be clear, I have no intention of doing this ever but I wondered if there was any form of ruling in place for this.
