Today imo was the perfect example of people that do anything to win an Open

Best 2 from 4 and a team score 93 points ?!?!?

93 points in the hardest wind that you can play there

Clear 10 points between them and second

It’s no surprise that no one clapped when they picked up their prize

So is it time for Opens to remove any prizes to discourage the cheating ?

93 points in the hardest wind that you can play at Porthcawl

That doesn't seem an unreasonable score to be honest. Just over 5 points a hole between a team of 4?

I'm playing the Spring Open there in April, hopefully not too windy then.

10 points clear of second

5 points per hole in those conditions was ridiculous

There is no way anyone is scoring that well with the way that course was playing

The whole concept of handicap golf being a contest is ludicrous anyway, so of course any non-trivial prize is stupid. Of course it's not fair. I mean, literally the whole idea is that you add a fudge factor to make it fun for everyone rather than a fair test of ability.

Is that practical, I guess they bring in reasonable revenue for a cold Tuesday in February.
What was the prize on offer?

I never expect to win anything at an open, certainly not one of their team prizes. The scoring is invariably ludicrous.

Even nearest the pin prizes are debatable. A couple of years ago a mate of mine stiffed one at a par 3 at Coxmoor. And I mean, put it to no more than three or four inches.

Didn’t win. Was beaten by someone in the last group out. Yes, really.

Not applauding the winners sounds like sour grapes if i'm being honest. The opposite of what this great game is about.

I can totally understand it though. I’ve been in clubhouses on more than one occasion when the winning score in an AM-AM has not been well received.

Groans at best, stony silence at worst is not uncommon. And if you have a room full of golfers who have been beaten by at least ten full points in brutal conditions, I can’t say I’m surprised.

The wind was over 20mph all day, stronger gusts and blooming cold, wind chill down to just above freezing. Some of the pins were unusually tough.

93 was a nutty score out there today.

Our best hole was 7 points, our worst was 2, and that was a decent 2😉

I think Porthcawl have scaled down the prizes, but last year's score was higher in driving rain!🤣🤣🤣🤣 (And we know what happened to those guys)

What getting every club running an open to not attract players by offering prizes 🤔

I don’t enter any Open because of the prizes on offer

Enter Opens because it gives you the ability to to play top courses at great prices

If they removed the prizes at the one today it would still be full

Be gracious in defeat. Unless you have proof they've cheated , not applauding is very unsportsman like.

The game of golf should be better than just throwing accusations about.

There was undoubtedly some pretty rubbish scoring for a best 2 from 4, but that doesn't mean everyone should or will score badly.
Accusing others of cheating for no other reason than not liking their score, which appears to be what is happening here, is pretty poor.

Maybe , maybe not. If you're not there for the prizes I guess it doesnt matter really, just enjoy the day and don't worry about it.
