15 yards to the pin... how do you get it there?

One of my regular playing partners putts it with a hybrid to great effect. Seen him use it from all sorts of positions, and distances. Almost always a 1 putt tap in afterwards. He recently bought the hybrid, never had one before.
It's so effective I keep threatening to steal/snap it. He's deadly with it. He's off 5.

It's so effective I've started doing it and whilst not as adept as him I have seen some benefits.

I've been doing this for a while now......seeing some great results.....

chip with PW depending on how hard the ground is, let it roll out or chip it close to the hole......in theory.

Like the op I tend to use my 48*. I would use my irons but don't like playing these shots with my iron because I don't like the thick soles. Part of the reason I'm considering a combo set if/when I upgrade my irons.

Feet together, stance a little open and aim to nip the ball off the surface. couldn't understand anyone would want to flop that shot when the only trouble is the fringe. Much more chance of it going in by rolling than slam dunking.

I read about this 'Linear method' on here and looked it up on YouTube. I have been practising it and really like it now. I would use a linear chip with a 9 iron.

I've been using it too. Funny thing is now I am getting confident with this method I am starting to be able to go back to something a little more orthodox but lets take it one step at a time.

58 degree and loft it to within a foot and allow for a bit of check and a bit of roll. I do not do low chip and runs as I am useless at gauging the roll out and often end up the same distance away as I started plus in the air there are no hazards like pitchmarks and spikemarks to affect the roll. Probably why I play off 12.

Choose a club to clear the fringe and land on the green and get the ball running like a putt soon as poss , that's the percentage shot , all that stuff about pitching it on and checking it to roll out or flop it by the pin to stop it all depends on the strike and if you trap grass between the blade and the ball then no one knows what`s going to happen , you could quit on the shot or knife it so just keep it simple

Quite good at practising it on the practise area, but get the yips most the time on the course!

Prob a 9i or pw chip for me. I've tried the flop it up lw shot but far too much chance of me messing it up. The chip is more dependable and even a bad one still leaves me in a decent position. A bladed lw could leave off the back or worse.

you could play a low spinney chip with a lob wedge but a flop shot on the shot described in the OP would be silly.

He's good, if you're anywhere near him and are interested in the method; worth a trip.

Thanks for the replies, looks like variables of a chip & run edges it over higher flighted lob

I used to use 8I until becoming frustrated that the roll distance was harder to predict than the PW which seems more controllable (just have to see if I can apply it on the course now as previously it was all too easy to go ground first and dunt it half distance so hopefully the drilling on practice green will pay off this weekend)
