David Howell four putted from four feet today, must have cost him about £20k a putt.

What was your worst howler.
Mine was at Muirfield with a nice wee downhill putt for a two from about 10 feet behind the pin on the 13th.
Went boldly for it, missed, and it trickled on and on and on until it finished 30 yards short of the green.

What made it even worse was that I was playing with my father and his pal. [The Muirfield head greenkeeper]

I 4 stabbed the 16th in a comp back in October from 20 feet. I was 5 over gross at the time and finished 10 over.

At the PGA National at the Belfry, the 17th pin was on a slope.
Made GIR and the first putt missed a whisker and rolled off the front. Chip on and repeat, chip on and repeat, chip on and the 3rd putt just held the slope. Sunk that Thank God....

I've 4 putted the 13th at my club twice in comps. It's a tricky green so, with some pin positions, if you get a long first putt wrong you can still be miles away. It's also known as the green to never concede a putt on; some nasty breaks can scupper even a short putt.

Doesn't half wreck your score!

Ha ha I had a downhill birdie putt (4YRDS) on this last week and ended up with a bogie :o

Got on the wrong side of a hole at Blackmoor at the first GM meet there. Think it was the 5th (long left to right dog leg with ditch running across). Only had about 8 feet to save par and a chip for bogey. Didn't touch it and it missed the cup and went on, and on, and on. Think the EU changed the laws on gravity. Wouldn't mind but it wasn't really that severe a slope

Easy to do on that (fabulous) hole - putted off the green, but stayed on the fringe once, to laughter from 3 others, myself. Hope you cursed the Green-staff :D

My only 5 putt, to date, was at Old Thorns - also about the 13th - just failing to hold the back tier, of 3, that the pin was, so ended up on bottom tier. Always 3 putt country, but the first 2 attempts failed to make it to the top tier and ended a couple of yards behind where they started!

Devastated for Howler. Been showing flashes of his steady brilliance after too many periods of injury caused frustration.

Last 16 of the club championship and all square playing the last. Knocked a hybrid to about 12ft from 200 yards to leave myself a good chance to win and at worse extra holes. Missed the birdie putt on the low side to leave about a 1.5 footer straight uphill which I duly pulled the crap out of to gift the match.

I played a Greensome at Callander with JJF69 last year. He hit the par 3 9th, 231 yards into a stiff breeze. I putted it right off the green!

Great pitch by Johnny secured a bogie!

I double bogied the 35th hole in the Saunton open about 5 years ago, a par would have won the competition, finished 5th on countback :(

That was hard to watch The Howler's 4 putt today .The worst putting woes ive seen didn't happen to me but to an American chap I was playing with at Hunstanton Golf Club Norfolk. The guy had hit the green GIR and was putting for birdie but proceeded to putt off the green that fell to a 20 drop(I think its the sixth hole at Hunstanton). He then had a nightmare trying to get the ball just onto the green from where he was and ended up with a 13!,he then proceeded to hurl his oddessey putter at the buggy which bent the shaft and he had to putt out the rest of the round with a 5 wood!.Not a good days golf......

too many to mention including, 4 putted at Hillside incluing missing from 2 inches, took 5 from about 30 feet last week but it was a temporary green

ON the 11th Par 4 at my home course I was on in 2 and pin high about 1 foot from the hole, on a slight slope left to right break but really a good solid putt should have gone in with ease. Took the yips on the putt and ended up 3 foot past. Missed the putt back and walked off with a 5.

I've had a couple of those "I'll just tap it in" moments in medals where I try to stand like a demented giraffe to not step on someone's line and then miss it. NEVER AGAIN!

Had an 8ft putt for birdie @ Liphook last year for the half way lead in The Pearson Trophy. Thought I hit a really nice putt, but an ounce too much pace- missed on the high side and rolled out to 2, 3, 4ft....cauht the slope and trickled ever so slowly another 40 ft off the front of the green and 15yds down the fairway.

Luckily no one saw it, apart from 4 people waiting on the 1st tee and the whole dining room having their lunch!!!! :(

Playing Sharpley on New Years Day, had a steady round going, got to the par 3 5th, just throught the back of the green with my tee shot, bit of a duff chip that left me a bit of a nasty left to right putt form 15 foot for par, lipped out and left me around 6ft straight up the hill.

Weak putt about a foot short of the hole that came back to my feet, another weak putt that did exactlty the same. then finally holed it for a 6!

Still shot +4 gross for the front 9 for 24 points so i shouldn't really complain :)
