I'm the opposite, if I'm between clubs I'll tend to go for the lower iron. I find I get better results if I commit to a shot rather than constantly thinking on the way down not to hit it.

Choke down the grip, shorten backswing and commit.

Your def not wanting to be thinking of half hearted swings on the downswing if anything at all.

i find i hit my long/mid irons better when it's a full shot but with my shorter irons i find i struggle a bit with the full shots.

not all the time but of late i've noticed that with my 48* wedge i tend to hit it crap when it's a full shot.when i play it as a 3/4 shot i usually strike it really well and the results are good.because of this the confidene is high and i feel like it's going close.
 
Yes, within 2 or 3 yds for a well struck shot - surely this must be the most important bit of info that a golfer should have?
 
I suppose it must be something to do with my age but, club for club, Harvey4banger hits 20 yards more than me and Andr3w 25 yards more. I'll have to live with it as I'm not going to get any younger.
