My 5 year old is at the stage an Xbox or ps3 should be good fun for him and the parents.

Heard the Kinney thing is good for kids on the Xbox, I assume ps3 has similar?

So what's best all rounder that will keep a 5 yr old happy and daddy entertained as well?

Xbox. END.

With Kinect, your little one can play all sorts of fun games, my 4yr old loves it! dance games, animal games. Then I have Call of Duty, Tiger Woods etc... also for me though, it has replaced my DVD player, i also stream sky sports through it, rent films off t'nterwebnet...

PS3 would give you BluRay, but In my opinion, the Xbox is better as an all rounder.

Seconded:thup:

I'm a PS3 fan myself and it does have the PS Move which is very similar to using a Wii in the fact you hold a remote. But having played in the Xbox Kinect I have to say that it is amazing.

If Playstation brought out something similar then for me it would be PS3 all day long, but as it doesn't I think the Xbox just nicks it but only just as the Kinect is expensive and for online gaming you need to buy certain components, whereas on the PS3 everything is ready to get online out of the box.

It's a close call but I know I will not be swapping my PS3 for an Xbox just yet.

Everything you need to get online comes supplied with the Xbox as well, yes you do have to buy online time as in Xbox Live(although you get a free month when first registering) but the online service is much better than Sony as well as some things being available to Xbox users before they are available to PS3 users........in other words, you get what you pay for:whistle:

Oh i also use Kinect as a version of video calling via MSN messenger to talk to my folks who live in france,

Smange, I didn't realise that. I know when I had an Xbox if I wanted to get it online via wireless I had to buy a wireless adapter and the associated Xbox live membership. Fair enough you may get some things before the PS3 but usually it's something that people can be willing to wait for.

I have a ps3 which I really like, it's worth noting that online for ps3 is free, and there isn't really any difference, so you save yourself 40 quid in that department plus whatever adapters you need for Xbox that you don't for ps3. Maybe I'm a little biased but I didn't like kinect when I tried it, thought it was a bit jerky and you need plenty of space to use it effectively, haven't tried ps move so can't comment on that. Another that is only small but would get on my nerves is that Xbox controllers need batteries whereas ps3 ones are rechargeable... IMO you should go with ps3 but I'm sure you'll get just as much enjoyment out of an Xbox :)

If you going wireless you do need to buy the adaptor but not to go wired, personally think wired is much better for online gaming, but I know there are plenty people who use the wireless adaptors without too much issues.

Maybe its my internet connection here in a small village in Donegal but the adaptors didnt work too great when ive tried them.

I think both consoles have their plus points and it pretty much comes down to personal preferance and mine is for Xbox

I bought recharbable packs with a docking station that stays permanently connected to the xbox USB port for approx £20. for each problem of each console there is a solution..

Darth, do you have any mates with both you could go and have a crack with?? thats probably the best idea, its akin to asking which Driver is best, a titleist or a callaway for example, you will get pros and cons for both from different people with different reasons, but at the end of the day, the PS3 and the Xbox are much of a much, with a few good features on both. for me, xbox wins, but for others its PS3!

I have to agree with you there mate, it is each to there own . Both consoles are great , and both will have there knockers. I have a PS3 but have messed around on the x box and like them both.

If you remember years ago it was which is best, a ZX spectrum 48k or a commodore 64 . Oh the good old days.:D

All new XBoxes come with the wireless built in.

Which I found out after 10 minutes of searching for the cable to connect to my router when I bought a new one!

What I would consider is that games are getting bigger and bigger and the PS3 has had some issues with large games such as Skyrim (something to do with available RAM).

PS3 for me, but I use mine more as a "media center" as opposed to just for (mostly) games. The Kinect is ok, but not really anything I'm interested in. Plus of all the "exclusive" games that are available for each console (Halo for Xbox for instance), the PS3 has the much better choice as far as I'm concerned (Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted are worth the price alone for me)

The new Xbox bundles come with built in wifi so no need for the adaptor anymore, they are the gloss black ones with the chrome touch sensitive controls. 1 month free gold membership then after that you can pick up 12 months on eBay for about £25-£30. If you buy direct through Microsoft it's £39.99 however they give you a discount every year which increases the more you have been with them, I'm now a member of about 5 years and pay £26.50 per year for Live. According to the guy I spoke to at Microsoft there will come a day for me when it'll be completely free! Although I guess I'll probably have to wait another 10 years!

Kinect is the way forward for kids and family gaming, it's reasonably priced too. You can pick up the sensors for less than £100 on ebay, sometimes if you hunt hard enough you can get them brand new for less than £100 too. You do require a fair bit of room in your lounge to be able to play it which has put a lot of people off buying it, however there is now a solution. A third party company have released a "Fish eye" which clips to the front of the Kinect device and lessens the distance required as it feeds a zoomed effect to the camera.

The PS3 is a good console, I'll never bash the PS3 as I was a huge PS2 fan and owned a PS3 until it died on me about a year ago (£400 I'll never see again!). Unfortunately for PS3 they have been behind the times with regards to this generation of consoles, ripped off the Wii with the PS Move, took ages to add a rumble feature to their controllers and despite all the issues the old Xbox's had with the "Red ring of death" the PS3 has the same issue but have never offered their customers an extended warranty to cover the fault, unlike Microsoft who admitted they had a problem and for the issue alone they extended the warranty to 3 years. For the record, when I phone Sony about fixing my PS3 they quoted me £125 plus VAT, it would have been an extra £20 to go out and buy a brand new one.

Online gaming is chalk and cheese between the two consoles. Microsoft have nailed it, making it easy to use, talk and play with friends, you really do feel like you're linked in with your friends when you boot the Xbox up, whereas with the PS3, I always felt like I was gaming on my own, it's not the most social able of consoles.

I have blabbed on long enough. Get a 360 if it's for the kids.....my 4 year old loves it.

Wasnt aware the new Xbox came with built in wifi, excellent.

Have had my Xbox Elite for over 5 years now without a single problem and it has been well used in that time.

P.S. swanny32.........do you work for Microsoft? as that was a mighty fine sales pitch:thup:

TBH I don't think either console is better. Both have their ups and downs. For me it would have to do with what my friends have got............Basically I like to play games online and if most of my friends have a PS3 then I can play online with them, but if they have an Xbox then I can't. So if I was in your positions I would be thinking:

1) Do I want to play online with friends??
2) If yes then what consoles / games do they have
3) If no, then it all really depends on what games you want... eg Forza (only on Xbox) or Gran Turismo (only on PS3)

If you follow this guideline then I'm sure you'll find the right console for you

took words right out my mouth

Neither, for a 5 yr old i would get the Wii

But for adult gaming get the Xbox we have had both , PS3 for blueray dvd apart from that Xbox has the edge

For young children the Wii is the best by far
