Whether you have tea, dinner or supper depends on the time, or geographical location, not what class you are.

Meals go:
Breakfast
Elevensies
Lunch
Tea
Dinner
Supper

Only if you are greedy though.

However, tea, dinner and supper get confused the further north you go.

You're quite right.

Wake up and have my Breakfast , don't have anything mid morning and build up an appetite for my dinner. Go right through then till around 5 ish when I have my tea. If I get a bit peckish during the evening then I'll have a bit of supper

I presume vig, Parmo etc do likewise!

Fecking hell!, I wish! I get up, pot of tea, no time for breakfast. Grab a sandwich mid morning (brekky I s'pose). Then don't eat until 6pm, Which should then be my "lunch"??
Might have a "snack" around 9ish before retiring to my sack to start over the next day. SO, why am I a fat B@$£@£d?.
Only vices are tea & coffee. The only time I eat choccy or snacks are on the course.

If you are working class, there is still a chance that your descendents can be upper class. If you obtain wealth and become part of the landed gentry, then, after a few generations your descendents will not have to work for a living and they will be upper class. So the system works you see.

I don't really wish to define what I consider Upper.. middle & working class in the confines of the forum environment, as I think its something that could get quite heated & is a subjective matter of opinion.

However, I will say my upbringing & attitudes are generally that of middle class. And tend to be at logaheads with the opinions & attitude of many of my current work companions.

Generally due to the job i do I am working with many who have had a working class upbrining & therefore a working class attitude. Therefore having little in common with most of those I work with in general.

Thing is the subject is something that can no-longer be defined by the job you or your parents do alone. And is much more complicated, the deviding lines between the old class system has broken down somewhat & is at best hazy to say the least. That is, in my opinion of course.

So am i Middle class, (or even upper middle class) or working class, well, I supose both if we are to use the old definitions & ultimatly I supose neither.

To be honest, I feel that although i now find the whole subject crass, I find it hard not to give some sort of opinion. Hope this makes some sense to everyone ..?

There are many people I know who insist upon calling Lunch dinner, which I find extremely common & cringe every time I hear lunch frefered to as dinner.

Although a northerner by birth I'd agree with the list of what meal comes where in the list. Though as pointed out supper & tea can be used for the same meaning within conversation.

There are other meals such as Brunch & high tea that can be added to the list & generally in my opinion can at least in the case of high tea have more to do with the formality of a late afternoon early evening gathering & the type of food consumed.

I take it that makes me as common as they come then!
As for high tea, our chair seats are standard regulation height. No leg swinging in our house! :D
