Winter Balls?

Was just wondering of anyone changed their balls during the winter? I tend to lose more during the winter because of leaves etc, and also noticed that the balls dont go as far when theres a chill in the air.

With wet fairways and damper, softer greens, do many people change to a harder, cheaper, 'distance' ball?

Im thinking of omething a little harder this year just to see how it goes, i played really well last winter. Im thinking of ad333's or one of the callaways, ive tried nxts before and didnt like how hard they felt of the putter. Any other balls I should be trying? trispeeds etc?

I use trispeeds most of the time and really like them, plus I managed to get them at £12.50 a dozen when I was in the US over the summer. That said, I haven't ever tried a more'premium' ball like a pro V1 so couldnt compare them. I did use Warbirds for a while, but prefer the trispeeds.

Hi mike, if you have never tried the prov's etc of this world, id wholeheartedly recommend you try them at least once, you would need to be aware of the extra spin they can prduce when hit crisply though, id reckon you might come up short more times than long. An excellent ball along with the callaway tour IX (my current ball of choice which only has one downside, it still doesnt wear just as well as I'd like a ball to).

Just git my self a new box of 333's and played well with them yesterday in the wet and cold conditions, I think they will be staying in the bag this winter!

Either the AD333/Trispeed or the Callaway alternatives should be a good bet and not too expensive. I sometimes use JJB "Better Quality Prov-1" during the winter. Only £11 a dozen - you still get a half decent ball with no real scuffs and they're not refurbs so you can see how good or bad the ball is. Our store has loads always. They don't seem to be any less in terms of performance to a new prov-1.

I got a box of Warbirds last Winter. They flew quite well but misbehaved quite badly on the greens. They have been resting in the shed all year.

I did get some pro v1s as well when in America (£21 a dozen) but when I cam back my game was struggling a bit so am saving them until I'm hitting well again, and also when the weather gets better - dont want to be losing them! I am looking forward to tying them though!

I bought these to my peril. They really are crap and not worthy of the callaway name to be honest.

As you say, long off the tee but they are bereft of anything resembling feel and on and around the greens they are simply woeful.

I've was going to put the AD333's into my bag for the winter as well as the remaining NXT's from last year (I use pro V and Ix's in the warmer drier conditions). We recently looked after a neighbours cat while she was on holiday and she bought me some Pro V lake balls. Didn't have the heart to tell her my feelings on lake balls but as I'm playing such crap I've swallowed my pride and decided I'll lose those first before using the Srixons

Callaway big berths wouldn't be such a bad winter ball if they didn't cut up so fast!

What kind of make are the 'JJB better quality pro v'??
They sound horriffic,do you get a free K1 speed driver with every dozen?!

They're genuine prov-1's but only slightly used rather than really scuffed or refurbs. They do 2 types. prov lake balls that are really only practice quality and these. Honestly, they're not bad.
