All winter I've been playing Titleist TruFeel balls as they are cheap and I don't mind losing them in the mud and stopping power on approach to greens isn't really an issue when the greens are so soft!

Yesterday afternoon as the sun was shining I decided to play something different, not usually a lover of firm balls (I've played the Q Star Tour and Titleist Tour Soft in 2023) but I found a decent TP5x in the locker and decided to give that a go!

WOW - when caught well with the driver I was getting a noticeable boost in distance and also seemed a more penetrating ball flight, well struck irons also seemed to have a bit more distance on them.
Chipping and putting obviously felt a lot different with a much firmer ball than I've been playing with, but I reckon I could get used to the feeling!

But TP5x's are sooo expensive, are there any slightly cheaper alternatives or do I just have to bite the bullet.

Driver swing speed is usually a touch under 100mph.

Another one for the seed golf ball. They’re fantastic for the price. I’ve been using the SD-15s over the winter and they’ve been great! The Q-Star is the equivalent on the AD333 I believe with the SD-15 is an equivalent if that. I use the SD-01 over the summer as I get more yardage and greenside spin

I've used a SD-05 for my last two rounds, it seems to perform well and it still barely has a mark on it. Good quality.

Wow have the seed sd02's gone up in price since 2024?

No longer the bargain they once were 😔

Seed sent an email the other week to advise buy now before the increase of pricing. However £35 a dozen is not too far off the premium ball value. Obviously you get a better deal when purchasing in bulk.

After I used these I liked them, went to buy more and they were out of stock indefinitely so I moved on. Just seen now they finally have it back in stock, a year later!

At that price it's cheaper to buy Pro V1s in the annual 4 for 3 deal!
Interestingly, they do a subscription deal where it's £29 and they'll automatically deliver you a box every one, two or three months. I don't think I've ever sat and calculated how many weeks/months I get out of one box. Considering I only get to play 5 times a month, I should be at the 'one box every 3 months' end of things really...

I already used a 'direct to consumer' deal for this year though, first time I've bought in bulk. Back on Black Friday I got three boxes of Vice Pro Air for around £31.60 per box. So if I can't get that deal again when they run out, maybe I'll go back to these Seeds, who knows. If I am using one box every three months, these should last me until the next Black Friday, since I've only just started on the first box. 😁

Even with the subscription, I'd say the pro v1s are better value.

Shipping is £4.99 so that's £33.99 x 4 = £135.96
At current retail of £49.99 on the 4 for 3 deal the pro v1s would be £149.97

For a years supply of balls I'd rather pay £14.01 more (roughly £1.17 more a month over the year) and have the Titleists.

Quite a few stockists are doing:

TaylorMade TP5 4 for 3 Promotion Golf Balls

White / 4 Dozen / Free Personalisation

£134.97

Seems one of the best deals at the moment.

That’s me done with seed if that’s the price of their balls now. Appreciate if you do the subscription thing it works out cheaper, but I honestly don’t think I’d use a dozen every 3 months, when I factor in playing decent pick ups or other balls if it’s in winter or not a comp.

I also find that if I have got a big stock of balls I go through them quicker! No idea on the psychology of that, but I’ve noticed previously when I bought a 4 for 3 deal, that a dozen will go quite quickly.

I checked some of the reviews on their website under one of the balls, people were saying the subscription model was trash, they either didn't get a delivery or they got two at once! Not ideal offering a subscription if you can't manage it properly.

Same from me. When the balls worked out at just over £2 a ball I thought the deal was good and the balls quality OK.

But with the TP5x 4 for 3 deal that is on at present - I've just ordered 4 dozen and gone 50/50 with a mate! - Even got them personalised with the name of our club on them :D
