Knowing your job can be handy for the Club. We have been looking for a Treasurer for sometime, and when my Accountant mate joined they pounced on him. So far he has fended them off, but it is only a matter of time.
I just think unless you fit the mould they can be very unwelcoming places. I play beau desert twice a month, i arrive dressed and ready and leave striaght away. All to avoid the type of welcome you get

What mould is that ?
Every private club I have been too has been very welcoming
I do know what you are saying, I've been there, but what I found was that I was as much the issue as they were. I used to play Ferndown a few times a year and it wasn't until I got to know some of the members that I realised they were normal
Sometimes you can pitch up at these places feeling a bit defensive and that can cloud your judgement.
I'm not saying there aren't some knobs, there are a few everywhere. They just get laughed at at my place![]()
I say no more
It appears you suffer from a bit of prejudice towards private clubs
Outdated views from the 80's
Don't worry we have a number of members who are firemen
Couple of brickies , a window cleaner ( visual technician he calls himself ) , sprayers, labourers , gardeners , cleaners
All mixes of jobs
I'm not old enough to remember the 80's and yes your are correct. I do suffer from prejudice towards private clubs. I'm in a society and play alot of them and apart from maxstoke park i can honestly say i would never fit in with any of the clubs. As i am the minority with this view in the golfing world i have to accept that the fault lies with me. I love golf but dont like the club house scene

Quiz night on a Monday for us.:thup:You don't know what you're missing, there's a bridge night at mine on Saturday.... I can't wait![]()
The clubhouse scene ? Do you mean socialising and having a laugh ?
Rather socialise with people from my own circles. I have met many nice people on the golf course but few that i'd spend social time with. i'm very selective of my company. I had my 30th birthay party in a phone box!!The clubhouse scene ? Do you mean socialising and having a laugh ?
Don't know about your club, but our constitution doesn't insist on all of your socialising taking place at the club, we are actually allowed to have a social life outside of the club.

Your own circle ? What is so different about golfers that means you wouldn't socialise with them ?
Guess you won't be at any meets
I would have to say that i dont bond well with golfers. I just dont seem a to be able to relate. Of course there are exceptions and have met two good friends because of golf. which is funny because i get on with most fishermen and find them more on my wave length.
