Why is work experience important when joining a golf club?

Rather socialise with people from my own circles. I have met many nice people on the golf course but few that i'd spend social time with. i'm very selective of my company. I had my 30th birthay party in a phone box!!

It's entirely possible that playing at the golf club may at some point widen that circle of friends.....

I knew no one at the club when I joined, was a little nervous about it as my only expectation was the images of golf clubs I had when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. From day one and my first round on the course I was made to feel nothing but welcome. And over time have made a few friends down there, who sometimes invite me to socialize outside the golf club even.... Like all clubs, you'll find a knob or two, and the occasional odd one... eh Phil....:D Like Phil says, we have a very diverse membership as far as jobs go, but on the course, we're all there because we enjoy the game, what you do for a living, or not, makes no difference to me if we're playing a round together.

I remember being asked what I do as part of my interview, but not my entire work history, that one does seem a little odd. I've nothing to hide in my past but would politely question the necessity to provide that - even my CV doesn't carry all that info now due to my current and previous one covering the last 20 years..... Just tell them what you do and leave it at that.

Come to think about it - our membership application form asks for job/position. I've no idea why. I'll ask as I don't see the relevance - either today or whenever.
