I went for a walk yesterday to buy a couple of water guns and a ball for the sproggs. I passed a car hire shop and this was outside. I had one back in the day and it was a thing of beauty. Why did I sell it though. About as practical as a skateboard on an allotment. But god I looked as sexy as hell in it. Probably couldn't climb into one now. What car should you not have sold.

Jeep Cherokee 4.0L Orvis edition
14 years old when I bought it. Nothing wrong with it when I sold it a couple of years later because somebody persuaded me I needed something more reliable for my regular journeys from Hertfordshire back to the motherland (Notts). It's the only vehicle I've ever really regretted selling. Replaced it with a Golf R which is possibly less economical and definitely has less character.

SAAB 900 Turbo. The last variant that was more SAAB than GM (though GM had already started to get their mdoifications into it) before it became a fancy Vauxhall Cavalier and was rebranded a 9-3 by GM. It was a company car, and I wish I'd bought it rather than letting them do a private sale.

None..they'd all served their purpose and needed replacing....
That’s it for me. A car’s a thing for getting me from A to B safely and without braking down. And that’s it.
Why did you even read beyond the first couple of sentences, never mind spend time replying? ?
I could go on the barbecue thread and declare a dislike of outdoor cooking, but why sponge up their fun.

Or you could scroll past and move on....seems a reasonable answer to a question to me..
And I do recognise the irony in this post...

It was meant light heartedly, which you hopefully realise. I share your lack of interest in the utilities and functions of my own trade, as interesting as some other people find them. I associate some of my cars with certain periods of my life and remember them with affection.

My Audi S4. I really loved that car. Every time I got in it, it made me feel good. Easily the fastest and most luxurious car I've owned, but also tastefully understated.

But I was doing too many miles a year and it was costing me a fortune to run and did lousy mpg, so it had to go. And then covid happened and my mileage plummeted. If I'd kept it a few months longer I'd probably still have it now.

I still regularly think about getting another one, but the latest models are oil burners, so it's just not the same. The petrol V6 sounded really good.

That was what I was going to ask. I remember climbing into one of them and really struggled to climb out!

Of all the cars I have owned, the one I wished I had kept was my old Triumph 2000 Mk.1.

The one my missus would have again is her old Citroën C6. Costly to insure, tax, and thirsty too. Lovely car but sold as it was a money pit! She is not one for practicalities.

Just one and that was my last change . Went from a diesel estate to a petrol hatchback in the same car . I really miss the frugality of the diesel (60mpg), the low car tax of £30 a year and the usefulness of an estate. Very much a spur of the moment impulse buy, I only went shopping for a lawn mower next door to the garage

New petrol car is 35-40 mpg and £155 road tax.

Simple..the question was 'which car should you not have sold?' To which my answer was that I was happy to sell or get rid of every car I've had as I don't form attachments to cars. So in my world 'none' is as valid as answer as 'my Simca Sport'. Doesn't undermine or devalue anyone else's love of one or more of their cars.

This is the only car I've owned that I'd have again... Although with petrol prices the way they are now, maybe it wouldnt be a good idea.

2002 MG ZS 180. 2.5 litre V6.... Tiff Needel described it as best handling front wheel drive car he'd driven at that time they were around.

An absolute please to drive and own... Effortless power.

Surprising, when it was around at the same time as the Focus RS, Golf GTi mk5 and Civic Type R. Perhaps he never drove them.
