We have vouchers for the butchers for the comps a few weeks before Christmas.

But would anyone risk their reputation to win a turkey and a few pigs in blankets.?

If we have then it’s not been advertised.

I don’t think we’ve got any sort of committee

For the club to be affiliated to England Golf, I am pretty sure your County Union will have had to approve their organisation. This is how that is done in my neck of the woods:

To provide a Constitution and Rules which shall have been approved by the Union and which must contain in particular the requirement that all Officers and the Handicap and Competition Committee are elected by the Club members and furthermore that the Handicap Committee members are responsible for the WHSHandicapping System within the Club.

I suspect there are prob a good number of clubs that don’t have a HC committee as such and maybe only have one person who may do cards etc

There are prob clubs that have a pro do comps

The county wouldn’t have a clue at what most clubs do

I was pointing out the normal requirements for a club to become affiliated, not how things may happen at the club level.

Originally when the Club becomes affiliated this may be true, however over time things change and there is no way of knowing other than members reporting issues to the County whether or not a club is fulfilling its obligations.

as fas as i am aware he's only playing in individual opens but he's always posting on the swindle Whatsapp that he's shot level, -1 etc yet refuses to put those cards in

Bear in mind that he cannot put in these cards after he has played. He must register before commencing the round that he intends to put in a card.

Ha Ha Ha!!!

A while back our Handicap Sec was playing on a day out at another club. There were another group of golfers from another club also playing the course that day.

Conversation in the bar between certain players from the "another club" went something likes this...

Chas: Hey Dave you shot 40 points today...great score...you should put that score in for your handicap.
Dave: You know what Chas, I think you are right...if I register now will you be my marker and sign for my scores when I put them in in a couple of hours or so?
Chas: Yeah no problem, let me know when done and I'll approve your round.

Our Sec did try to explain that what they were doing was not correct but I think they frankly just told him to get lost and keep his nose out.

I agree. My last club now only effectively has one person who is handicap sec, comp sec, treasurer and captain all rolled into one.

It is why they have a 20.0 Indexer (25 course handicap) who played off 8 or 9 about 5 years ago. And their last pairs competition (4BBB) was won with 50 points, 48 second (and that 20.0 index guy wasn't playing)

Well guess who turned up at club night and shot 21pts in EIGHT holes and walked away with the MONEY!

Par Par Bogey Par Bogey Par Par Par !

Not bad considering his recent form when submitting cards.

It's only really a problem at my club in the Senior section tbh.
The Men's scores, by & large are not outrageous.
The Seniors on the other hand 🤣😂🤣😂

Anyone under about 15 or 16 h/c has no chance.
The ones that are doing the damage with the outrageous scores are the 20 - 30 h/c mob
The over 30 h/c & there are a few are pretty genuine & are either elderly or just terrible golfers.

The h/c Committee are fully aware of the issue but seem powerless or unwilling to act.
It's got to the stage now where I believe it's just accepted that this is the new normal.
It's resulted in many of the under 20 h/c golfers only playing in the men's comps off the longer tee's.

So it's the committee not WHS that's not working. Where I have I heard that before .
