I sure many folk lump several associated elements of handicapping under the banner of "whs."

Some folk care enough to argue about their chronological arrival and terminology.

Others don't really care at all. 😂🤣🤣
I suspect that most readers of a Rules and Handicapping forum do care about getting things right. If they don't care, why would they bother reading the forum? ;)

I wonder what proportion of the total golfing public that represents?😉

Of course some are passionate about total accuracy in the use of language and terminology in discussion of the Rules and Handicapping etc.

But, the world continues to turn, regardless.
Very small.

But Rules and pedantry go together.

I agree that the comp format was matchplay, but it was still strokeplay against the course regarding one's handicap adjustment.
So the choice of going for that putt for a half was there for the comp, but consideration of one's score for handicap was there at the same time.
Well, it was for me.
But in the past wasn’t it banned to play a match while playing a medal round.?

The games were different and so were the penalties , loss of hole etc ,no need to hole out.
