WHS doesn't work

In OZ handicap committee's disappeared once WHS took over, club's just let the computer do it, only need to allocate a handicap to a new member who has not got one.

I would love for a yearly review to be invoked, but a lot of work for someone and they are hard to find now.

Thats nice. The next WHS jump will probably include some AI function that will do better than even good hc committees did anyway. And adjust hcs for anomalous scores, or statistical outlier general plat scores or manipulation. That could include a total block on HC cttee scope for interference, as not being as systematic and uniform as the AI.

Cheats will find a way to cheat any system. WHS works just fine if the users are honest.

Given that plenty are not, I think it's time for some serious rethinking of prizes in handicap competitions🤣🤣

Ebay is full of brand new golf stuff being sold by Joe Public 😉

Thata because, in my experience at least, prizes moved away from cut crystal to clutter your shelves with, to golf gear or vouchers for. And averyone already has more golf equipment than they need.

Presumably WHS Rule 1.3(ii) bullet 3 kicks in.
I would be interested to know how they track possible manipulation under these circumstances.

If they have tools to do so, it would be good to share them. I assume players are encouraged to report anomalies to the National Association (whose job I don’t envy).

Not seen this guy enter any comps but he’s playing in opens
Again the answer is no, however the fact that an Open had no such stipulation would inform my decision whether to play or not - I'm not saying I wouldn't enter just that I would adjust my expectations accordingly.

Sorry to take this off track slightly but would any of you report a player who’s not entering cards?
It depends on the circumstances. There is no requirement in GB&I to submit cards other than from pre-registered individual stroke play rounds (including all comps), however the player has a responsibility "submit acceptable scores to provide reasonable evidence of their demonstrated ability" (rule 1.3). If someone was actively avoiding doing this, then I would likely speak to them first, and report them if necessary.

No wonder he feels the need to cheat. If the prizes for weekend comps at a local recreational golf club are £400 putters then you need to cheat to beat the other cheats.
When all that's at stake is a sleeve of Srixon balls we all seem to trust each other a bit more.
Yes! This is a big part of the problem. We're recreational golfers, we don't (or shouldn't) need rewarding for our performances. I've had a really good summer and picked up a couple of prizes in opens, I'm really happy because I'm playing better than I normally do and my handicap is coming down. The pro-shop vouchers that I've won are completely immaterial to my enjoyment. I would feel exactly the same if there had been no prizes at all. Open organisers do not do themselves any favours by having big prizes, they just attract magpies!

So maybe a move back to the token mantlepiece momento would mute the drive for prizes of value ?

Presumably he’s playing in Pairs or Team Opens then? (Individual Strokeplay Opens would be qualifying comps).
If so, his playing partner(s) are happy with the situation and “complicit“ with the deception?

as fas as i am aware he's only playing in individual opens but he's always posting on the swindle Whatsapp that he's shot level, -1 etc yet refuses to put those cards in

When is he shooting those scores? In the Opens, Swindle or by himself?
