Who is your golfer of the year 2015....and why ?

Ok I'll say it

I hope Spieth doesn't win golfer of the year

Just don't like him and think Day is more the type of golfer to get people more excited about the sport - Spieth for me is like a robot , very good player no doubt but seems to have personality of a damp squid , his golf whilst being superb just doesn't excite and the constant talking out loud is really starting to grate :(

Golfer of the Year isn't a personality contest though. It's to decide the best golfer this year. For me, the Majors are the absolute pinnacle of the sport and excelling in those goes above anything else. Spieth has Top 5'd in all 4 and won 2 of them. Day's had a fantastic year, but you can't look past the bloke that won 2 Majors.

I think it has to be Spieth - yes Day has dominated the end of the season and pushed in most of the Majors, but Spieth was so good early on in the season and those 2 majors are the icing on the cake.
I think there is a risk of a short-termist view of going for the man doing better late on in the season.

Head says Spieth, heart says Day.

It's a very close call but I think Spieth takes it. The fact that, even for a short while, so many people were considering the grand slam a possibility gives him the edge for top honours. Two majors in a year cannot be questioned in terms of clearly defined achievement.

Day is therefore runner-up but in a more romantic "supporting the underdog" way, I think is the person that will get more cheers from me next year.

Spieth prob will win but if Day wins then he is still a worthy winner because his year if he wins the Fed Ex has also been out of this world

Either are more than worthy winners

I agree with you on some of this here - his bad shots are always down to bad luck according to himself. Last night for example, stuck a drive into the rough and then had the audacity to claim he had a bad bounce when he was 30 yards offline! I also agree that Day is the type of golfer we need to get more people into golf, similar to Rory and Fowler here - for some reason Speith just doesn't have the same appeal.

However, I certainly 'hope' that Speith wins this year. Rory got it spot on in his interview at the SkyCart - Majors are the absolute pinnacle and 2 beats 1.

Taking nothing away from Day here - one of my favourite players, and I hope he goes onto win the FedEx if Stens slips up.

Jason day.

His performance at the Us open, while suffering extreme vertigo was incredible. To then bounce back and contend at the open, win the uspga along with another handful of tournaments is awesome.

As close as it gets

Look at all the dress code violations:

  • No collar
  • Shirt not tucked in
  • Torn shorts
  • No socks
Disgraceful! :D

The fact anyone other than Day can win the Fed Ex going into the final event is proof that the whole series is a joke,

Oh agree the whole Fed Ex is a joke - they say it's to award consistency throughout the season - so why are the last three weighted so highly and yet even if you win all three and someone in the top 5 wins the last they win the lot ?!?

Does make it more exciting though. European Tour last season ended pretty awfully. Rory didn't play the penultimate tournament, and yet at the end of it won the R2D. So it was already completely decided going in to the final Tournament of the season. Having a big season finale makes it much more exciting and drives viewers to the product, which is the most important thing.

Then have a winner takes all season ending tournament - scrap the playoffs and just have one event

Yeah, that would make more sense. Personally though, I quite like dynamic of the playoffs, with 1 shot making a difference between a guy making it to the next tournament or not. It makes for compelling TV all the way down the leaderboard which isn't always the case for a normal tournament other than around the cut line.

Andy Sullivan has had a great year to date and when he stepped up with the big boys after winning in South Agrica he didn't look out of place or sorts and was a great example in displaying how to enjoy the game.

Jordan Speith..you may not have been crowned "Champion Golfer of the Year"... but after today's performance (on top of the rest) you are The Golfer of 2015

Excited about 2016 much?

well i must admit i was expecting Day to win the fed ex ,and as such was going to be my player ,but Jordan is THE MAN of 2015 .
the future of golf is in very good nick with all these young guns strutting their stuff. Tiger who?
