Who got to knock it out of there way today then

Played yesterday only the back 9 open with 3 temp greens so played it twice was +5 for the 2 nines ,played well so hopefully the things i worked will get me back to single figures.
The thing is 3 of my bogies were on the holes with temp greens.

Had my first round of the year on Thursday. 4 of us (for £50 between us) played a new course Sharpley (near Sunderland). Great drainage, all greens in good shape, and fairways generally good. Shot 3 over my handicap (88) with 5 pars incl. SI1. Decent start to the season. Ball in the lake at the 12th was the low point + couple of 3 putts. Not the longest of courses, but great to be out there! :)

Just been bidding for clubs on e-bay. Kept getting outbid on irons at the death (will upgrade from Dunlops shortly!), but got a Wilson 3i hybrid and a Taylormade 3w, both of which I am confident will help me continue with steady improvement this year.

Scored 40 points today including 2 blobs.

My game is looking OK at the moment..

Crikey!, I'd say so too!

Could you possibly ask for any more? :D :D

The same round just without the 2 blobs (one being an 8 on the first and the other a 7 on the easiest hole on the course)

Hehe, I know that feeling although last time I had 40 points was when I added two rounds together

Good shooting. Hope you petition your club secretary for a rule 19 h/cap chop :D

Played 18 holes today, course was soaking although only 5 winter greens. Biting Cold North Easterly Wind as well. Shot 74 (+7) although short game kept score down as I was fighting a pull/hook most of the time.

Sadly no Handicap cuts until March as the course plays shorter in winter. Not that it makes any difference with my usual group as I have to negotiate my handicap with them before I start. Today was an exception as I was playing with a mate off the same handicap who has the same consistency issues as me (40 points 1 round, 20 points the next). Still, hoping to get it down to under 18 this season though the probable change in club may make that a bit more difficult as I learn the course.

January stableford (my blog has all the ins and outs) and managed 34 pts (14 out and 20 back). Scarily after about an hour it was still clubhouse leader. It won't win but nicely in the buffer zone. Very, very wet on the back nine but the greens were in great nick, relatively quick and very true.

Good to get my first full round of the year in though. Fell asleep in front of the sport. Don't know why (might be because I carried today) but I was really tired by the 16th.

Great blog Homer,
Some numpties at work consider me to be addicted, but I'm not a patch on you! (not that it's a bad thing to be addicted to)
And onto the other thread, they don't consider it to be cool either, but then again who gives a flying ****?

I had my first round of the year today - no mats, no temps - great weather.
I was doing my second handicap card - hit pretty much every green in regulation - pretty much three putted every green!!! RUBBISH!!!
To make matters worse, I got told I was a slow player. I wouldn't mind if I'd hacked it round but as it was me waiting on most of the holes for them, it grates on me slightly......

I eventually got out for 18 holes today with a few of the society lads and we played at pryors hayes, and after an indifferent round i came back with 30 pts.

1st proper round since last november so i wasn't expecting a massive score, but i've got something to build upon over the next few weeks.

If you sort out that putting Auburn i think it is you that will have the last laugh.....
Why would someone call you slow...Everyone has to start somewhere im sure your playing partners weren't born with a golf club in there hands....
Take no notice and things will fall into place for you...

I managed to play 18 holes yesterday and today! Weather has been fine around Reading although the ground is obviously quite wet. Looking forward to a good sleep now though as 2 days of golf has really tired me out!

Cheers
Nick

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Providing you aren't ridiculously so or hold play up by putting your bag in bad positions when you get to the green etc then get on with what you are doing. It sounds like you're on the right tracks if you can get the putting sorted. Personally I'd get a putting lesson. It worked wonders for me.

I reckon they were jealous at how well you were striking the ball.

Played in the winter league friday, lost 2 down. All 18 on main greens which were quick and true and the course was dry, this was on Carthagena.
Played yesterday again in the winter league, won 4&3(YES, our first win). It was very busy. There were 17 on main greens, the 11th has been dug up and relaid so is on a temp. The course was good considering the amount of rain we had friday, this was on John O`Gaunt. The brook that runs through the course was well up and hammering along, you would`nt want to lose your trolly in there yesterday, it would have ended up a few miles away in the Great Ouse.
Took my grandson Luis, who is 8, up there today for some practise, lunch and 4 holes on Carthagena. He got his silver medal in the Peewee section last year which allows him to come out with me on the course after 4pm in the summer. As it was quiet we went out at 3pm and played 4 holes, it got a bit chilly but he absolutly loved it, and so did i. Am a very proud grandad.
Sorry to ramble, but yes, both our courses are open and looking good for the year ahead.

I got out on Sat and Sunday scored 31pts over fifteen holes so happy with that. then on Sunday we had the winter league and had a win there.

Back to the old routine.

Played Saturday, first full 18 in 5 weeks, winter league match. My partner was out with a back problem so I had to play the other two on my own. Only 1 down at the 17th, lost 2 & 1 in the end. Screwed up on 3 holes in the middle, where I went from leading to down. Hit trees on two holes, and not having the luxury of the better ball, I had to try a couple of more risky shots to try and stay with them, unfortunately didn't come off either time, wouldn't have one the holes playing safe on the second shot anyways, so......Very pleased with my performance though, both new driver and especially my new Scotty putter were awesome. Managed 5 pars with some seriously good putting. Hope I can maintain it in next weeks match, and if my partner is fit, actually stand a chance of winning a game. :)

Winter League yesterday, 18 temps again. Won 5&3 despite giving 11 shots away, played the last few as well and shot a 3 under 67 (which is about level par with the temps shortening the course). Very pleased with most parts of the game, bit quick with the driver yesterday and leaked a couple right, pitching was awful and will need some work.

The freeze was obviously still very deep in the ground because the real greens were wetter than the day before as the balmy temps brought the thaw out more some more.

Subbed for a mate in the winter league on Sunday - real up and down round, but an amazing back 9 with 3 birdies!!! We were 5 up with 6 to play, but our opponent turned it on for a few holes, and we finally won with a 3&2... Difficult to judge in a matchplay with pickups, gimmies, etc, but replaying the round in my head I reckon I shot around a gross 80, nett 65 round !! (hcap 14.5)

Target single figures this year, two round like that and I'll be there !!

Managed to get out on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday was in the Winter Knock Out, talk about a game of two halves, I get 9 shots from my opponet and find myself 5 down after 9 with him playing 3 shots below his h/c. I win the next 3 holes to reduce the deficit to two, only to lose the next two holes to excellent pars. My opponet is dormie four, i then win the next 3 holes to take it down the 18, neither of us play it well and I miss a 12 footer to lose by one hole.

Sunday was a mixed Texas Scramble, we go round in 72 (par 71) net 61.3 only to finish 4th, but one shot less would have had us second, good fun though. The only annoying thing was if i drove as well on Saturday as I did on Sunday I might have made the next round of the Knock Out.

Still a bit early in the year for me to be playing weekends. I've got one game a week (midweek) booked for the next month and then we'll see how the course/weather is before I think about getting out for weekends
