Whats your motivation for practice?.

Having some trouble recognising this word "practice"......:mmm:

I have the odd range session if I'm bored and don't have enough time for a round but I get bored with that after a couple of dozen balls....

This. I like to practice putting, but in this weather, no thanks.

I'm not the best at practicing golf wise. If I have a bit of spare time, I'd much rather play a few holes.

During the winter I will try and hit the range if I haven't played that week, but I'm not going to worry too much if I dont.

I find when I practice, I end up over thinking and trying to change things. I spent a bit of time on the practice area at the start of the season and my game went down the pan. Gave up and just went back to enjoying my golf and found a decent bit of form.

I keep threatening to spend some time putting in the hall each evening,,,,,,,,,,but can never really be bothered.

At this time of year I have very little motivation, or time, to practice. It is too dark after work (20 minute drive to my neares decent driving range), too cold and too miserable. If I have any time at the weekend, I would rather play 9 or 18 holes than stand on a freezing practice ground hitting balls. In the summer it is fine, I can use the practice ground and short area at the club after work but during winter any idea of practice goes out the window.

Main motivation is to improve whether that be working on a swing change, consolidating a swing change or just to keep a good swing going.

I really enjoy practicing though. This is my 3rd club and at every one I've been the object of much ridicule regarding how much I practice...eventually they give up and quite often I suddenly see a few on the range!

I have no motivation to practice whatsoever, I'd say the only time that I practice is during the winter because I tend to try things that I normally wouldn't try, due to us having no qualifiers over the winter. I'll only go to the range and hit a bucket of balls if I've got something seriously wrong with my game. For a while I had the hooks with my irons so a bucket of balls at the range sorted that and I'd a few problems with my driver for a while, bucket of balls sorted that.

80-90% of the golf that I play, I have a card in my hand and I'd rather have it that way. I tend to lose my focus in bounce games and play a load of rubbish.

I like to practice at least 2-3 times a week with playing In between. My motivation is knowing that there is always someone better than me and that one day I can be that better person. For me there is always one part of my game that needs tweaking here or there for instance this weeks practice is bunkers. I just enjoy getting out and hitting balls. If I can perfect hitting balls of a sloppy dodgy lie in the winter how awesome will I be come summer time. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. I like having the confidence going onto a course knowing I can hold my own and not randomly spray it about which makes it so enjoyable to play. So practising makes playing more fun.

Glad to see that Homer is grooming you for the future. Is your target to get to single figures? :D

I wish I had time to get to the range..... 99% of the time I just have to turn up at the weekend and hope I play well. It's not a recipe for success.

My motivation would be that come the weekend I can stand over the ball and feel comfortable with what I was about to try and do....

I practise by actually playing on the course - don't bother with ranges etc

No better way to practise your whole game than playing a round.

I practice for several reasons. I've never been blessed with too much natural talent and so the relative success I've had at golf football and cricket have come as a result of hard work and sheer bloody mindedness. As for golf, I know I will be single figures and so I practice to work on the improvements I think will help get me there. In winter it's more about keeping the swing ticking over but in the summer I work on all aspects to try and be the best golfer I can

I kind of agree and enjoy a solo round when working on things BUT if say my drives are in need of work then the range is the place to fine tune. There are certain elements of the game that on course practice just isn't ideal for...spraying drives means a very long walk!

Last winter I practiced more than ever before and got absolutely nowhere for all my trouble. TBH I have come to the conclusion that there is no substitute for playing actual rounds to help you improve.
I practiced a lot at the range and lots of chipping, but it was all off mats and there is a world of difference between a perfect lie on a mat and even a decent lie on the course.

Motivation is to improve my ball striking not only in long game but in my short game to and to improve as a golf player to be the best I can be.

I can spend 2.5 to 3 hours playing 6 holes. I will hit a few drives, a few approaches then spend as long as I can chipping from various spots around the greens. I get most enjoyment from short game stuff so time just goes by without me even noticing it. I just let people through as I see no point in playing 9 holes properly on my own hitting 50 shots. I would rather hit 500 in the same time frame.

I don't have a set plan. I just do what I find enjoyable. few drives and chip till it gets dark.

I agree with Liverpoolphil. the range is all well and good up to a point. its course practice that makes the biggest difference.
