Whats your motivation for practice?.

I don't usually see a range visit as practice (although that's generally what happens)

Going to the range (especially if its a good range) is an activity in itself, just like playing a round and good fun if a few go at the same time but even on my own if I'm tweaking or adjusting, loosening up or going for target 'practice' then it takes no motivation really as its an enjoyable activity in itself

Actually I don't think enough ranges market the social aspect anywhere near as well as they might

Last winter I practiced more than ever before and got absolutely nowhere for all my trouble. TBH I have come to the conclusion that there is no substitute for playing actual rounds to help you improve.
I practiced a lot at the range and lots of chipping, but it was all off mats and there is a world of difference between a perfect lie on a mat and even a decent lie on the course.

That's the good thing about our practice area its all grass.
There are sloping lies humps and bumps etc so you can really do a variety of shots.
The other thing its really good for is homing the distances for my irons.

I have no motivation for practice so never do it.

The only way I can see this changing is if my children wish to play then I would practice with them and teach them to play properly.

You need a Woman.... :D

I took her to Formby hall one day. her observations of the day were

- I can walk fast when I choose to. this does not happen in every day life
- I shout 'get down' more than James Brown.
- she isn't that interested in golf. she was ready for the road after 9
- she can see the attraction to golf though. scenery, fresh air, relaxing.

I think my Missus would be disgusted at some of the language if she walked the course with me...;)

I'm toying with the idea of a day at Formby Hall Spa for the Missus for her Christmas present.. Maybe sneak a quick 18 whilst she has all the treatments... :D

In all fairness, that wasn't just me. Primarily it was Scouser, then me.. You recovered from your shock and joined in, then Birchy once he realized his score was pants.. How golf should be played IMO. Good golf, good course, plenty of laughs.. All followed by a bucketload of ale in York...

If you practice what is and how do you keep your motivation.

I practice twice a week sometimes 3 times but im beginning to wonder
why and ask myself why im doing it.

I am self motivated and enjoy practicing but what am I actually doing
it for this time of year.
No qualifiers now until March,no opens,no comps, cold wet courses.
I also know that if I don't practice come March I will be rusty and probably
would not have improved.

How do you motivate yourself and why do you practice?

I don't practise much but I play even less. Mostly, the motivation for me to practise is just to remind myself to keep my swing in some kind of rhythm. Without a bit of practise, I end up playing infrequently and slashing at the ball when I do, rarely with good results.

Can't say I'm a fan of hitting balls at the range but that's better than not hitting any balls at all.
