What is the best designed golf hole you have played?

17th at Carnoustie. I still can't hit the right club off the tee, and if I lay up well short it leaves a massive 2nd to the green. TBH there's any number of holes on that course... fantastic place!

when i read the 1st bit of this post ,and before i looked at any 1st thing thant came into my head was 17th at carnoustie,as last time i played it in 40mph winds the burn was in play off the tee and 2nd shot,i had 8,other lad i played wiv had a 14

also 8th at machrihanish dunes awesome hole 3 attemps best score a 7

Designed by Mother Nature.........6th hole @ Painswick - 200yd par 3 played from the top of painswick beacon down to a green which is formed natually by some mounds with a false front short left. No bunkers.

Wouldn't look out of place on the best of Open Rota courses.

I do hope that was meant tongue in cheek

I think your "natural features" are more accurately called "iron age earthworks" :)

Fantastic couse - playe dit a couple of times, one of my favourites
Let me know when you go and i'll try and come along

Do they stil have the honesty box for green fees ?

The first and second holes at aberdour which where the first two golf holes I ever played, two par 3,s back to back. First toward the firth of forth from elevated tee, and second across the bay back to mainland.

Also second at roxburghe stands out, elevated tee dog left right to left, into a well guarded raised green.

Most of the back nine at forest of Arden is an awesome experience, set amongst the deer and ancient oaks.

I played a course in Myrtle Beach called Kings North, an Arnold Palmer design. It has a very novel par 5 where you can play safe the long way round a lake (similar to 17th at Oxfordshire) or you can play to quite a small island fairway which allows you to reach in 2 quite comfortably if you get the tee shot safely away.

Great fun to play, despite my two balls in the lake
