What is the best anti virus (free if possible)

What's the deal with iPads and this sort of thing? Remember Mac going on about them being 'virus free' or something like that?

I've never had a virus on any of our iPads or iPhones.
Apparently Apple computers don't get viruses.
Although I could be wrong,I'm clueless when it comes to computers.

Bitdefender 100%

They have a free AV product on the go, but for me it is worth paying the money for the full security suite. Not badly priced, and if you keep an eye on the likes of HotUKDeals, you can often pick up a free license for 6 months.

Funnily enough I have just swapped out from Viper to Bitdefender!
My Viper renewal reminder had just flagged up, I had a look at various reviews and Bitdefender came out very well.
Nice easy download and installation, and touch wood seems to be working well.
My whole system seems a little quicker since install, so all's well in my world!

Been using Macs for over 20 years and iPhones/iPads for years too - I've had a (one) virus on a Mac but it was before OSX came out in 2002. Currently got a 27" iMac, 15" macbook pro and 13" macbook air plus an iPad 2 and iPhone 5, never had a problem with any of them.

Any updates or recent thoughts on this question. Need to replace Mcafee trial version on a new laptop running Windows 10. Been reading some dire warnings about AVG. Free will do for time being.

Use Nod32 from Eset here. Very robust and light on the system too
I don't rely on free for anti-virus, as I don't feel they are as quick to find new variants.

Avast Free and Malwarebytes free.

both do different jobs well

If you want a paid for one, then NOD is very good, not a fan of McAfee or Kaspersky

Windows 10 contains AV protection built in with defender. If you want a cracking little bit of additional software, download bitrater. It's a danish program that stops malware before its had a chance to open unlike antiviral software. Free for 30 days, worth trying it, we have a corporate license in work covering ours.

I've got Avast and Malwarebytes, both free, and they've caught quite a few threats.
Sites like Smartserials can sometimes give you free serial numbers to upgrade your account FOC. (allegedly but as it is probably illegal I would never dream of doing such a thing :smirk:)

Defender does both. It protects from viruses and malware. It wasn't great for 7 as security essentials but in w8 and now 10 it does a better job.

Yes - I saw W10 has Defender - but I couldn't activate it - would that be because I have Mcafee running? Defender does seem to get OK reviews.

+1 for Bitdefender here. Doesn't interfere too much with performance and has been getting good reviews. Changed after avast was getting a bit too fluffy and slowing me down.

Stopped a fair few bits and bobs getting through already whereas avast didn't pick anything up for as long as I can remember.

Penicillin, but you'll need to be either pregnant, over 65 or benefits to get it free...

Sorry, i'll get my coat

Penicillin will do nothing for a virus as it's an antibiotic and will only help other bacteria become more resistant to it.

This is why you can't have them for a common cold as it's a viral not a bacterial infection. :ears::ears::ears:
