My annual subscription is up for renewal with Norton. I have been far from impressed so shall not be renewing with them! My laptop was "invaded" twice and I had to hand remote control of it over to Norton..... It should have never happened.
What Anti Virus do you use and what are the subs like? Does anyone use any of the freebies i.e AVG or Avast etc, I'm told they are very good but I am a little dubious. Thanks in advance for any answers....

I use Kaspersky Pure - 3 user licence - £60/yr. Went through recommendation. No idea how good it is other than we don't seem to have any issues on any of our PCs/Laptops.

I have used Avast for the last 4 or 5 years and think it's much better than Norton - that i used before that!

Never had a problem (though quite a few threats were recognised and quarantined, deleted or prevented) and it doesn't gobble the huge resources that Norton did.

Oh - and I use the Free version!

I have norton on my PC nd laptops, tried the others and don't like them. Never had any bother with Norton plus in the past when looking for new AV software Norton cames on top as it found stuff the others didn't.

Mind you that said I could probably get away with no intrusion prevention as my PC and laptops are behind a firewall using a hidden address.

Currently using norton as it was free with my laptop, however i will go to AVG free when my 12 months is up. used it for years trouble free!

Another vote for Avast Free version, used it on several PC's and laptops for probably 7 years now.

Spookily enough the one 'engine' update last week caused me some issues and I had to do a restore to the previous day, apart from that its been flawless.........and free:whoo:

How do you know that you have been completely 'trouble free' - what the AV don't detect the AV won't report :)

Errr because as far as I am aware I don't have or have never had any viruses that have effected anything?!

To the op, also think about downloading malware protection, can't remember the name of the one I use... Am on iPhone now.. Laptop away until Monday!

Another vote for Avast

Wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole

I use MS security essentials and Malwarebytes.
I have spent so much time removing Norton from family and friends machines as they were running so slow they were almost unusable. Nortons has always been resource hungry and will take as much as it can get hold of.

Norton also leaves a lot of stuff on your computer when you uninstall it.

As well as the ones already mentioned, I've found Avira to be ok as well.

Vista and up means anything from vista and after, which means vista, windows 7, 8 and 8.1

Alternatively get a mac, then you don't have to worry about AV ;)

Sadly for me who is unlikely to ever make a living out of cleaning computers set aside operating the damn things I struggle daily Windows 8, but thanks anyway....
