What constitutes strong winds for a golfer?!?!

Hi Darren, where did you see the results?

Well all,I can say is ....wow!!!!!! Never, ever played in conditions like it!

It was brutal......2 rounds at Littlestone and 2 rounds at North Forleland in a combined 72 hole comp.

I haven't seen all the official results yet, but I won the morning nett comp at North Foreland and did OK in the Pm round at Littlestone......

I think there were around 75 competitors and I reckon I came something like 12th overall in the 72 hole scratch comp and must have come in the top 3 in the 72 hole nett comp.........Reductions only over all 4 rounds.

Should have copped some decent OOM points .......

My highlight was shooting the same gross score as the plus 3 handicapper.......

Well done Rick good shooting.
Did you win anything?

£25 voucher........and some legs that don't appear to work anymore.......
Also swallowed half the sand from one of the green side bunkers that was playing directly into a gale.......reckon it must have entered every conceivable orifice.......

I'm just thinking how well I could have done if it hadn't been for a raft of trebles and a quadruple bogey....I managed to 5 putt one green.......ball was within a mm of going in.........I went to tap it in and blew back 10 feet:o

Looking at the scores on the mid am website you clearly played some good golf, the gross scores are unreal.

Well done

Jason had put a shot of the score computer screen on the Facebook page mate.

The Littlestone scores are on HDID.

Well played sir, that could not have been easy at all!!

I used to be a mamber at Silloth. There is a small par 3 of about 130 yards (9th hole) which would play a 9 iron or wedge normally, but I have hit as much as a 4 iron at it.

Played St Andrews (New) one June day with a couple of colleagues, one a 1 handicap, the other a 9 like me at the time. It was blowing a hooley. We went into the clubhouse at 12 noon on a Friday in June. We asked the guy at the desk were there many people out, and he looked at us like we were idiots, before replying "What do you [redacted] think?". The altimeter above his head was gusting to 40mph wind. "That is at ground level. Probably stronger higher up", he helpfully said.

So off we went. First hole, 350 yard par 4. My 1 handicap mate hit a 1 iron off the tee and a 1 iron for his second shot and was still 30 yards short. I played one shot on The Old, a shot from the New which flew over the fence, so I ignored the sign telling me not to cross, went over and played it back. We had one birdie between us. I hit a driver, 3 wood and 4 iron, all with wind piercing barely controlled hooks which ran like greyhounds to reach a short par 5 on the front and I holed the putt.

The par 3 9th was playing about 185 that day, and we all hit driver and nobody even got close to the front.

The back 9 was downwind, so we could hit 340 yard drives but couldn't keep wedges on the green unless they landed 20 yards short and got a soft bounce.

Brilliant mate.......I was looking under the individual club comps....did realise Mid-Am had its own page..........cheers.
