What a shot!!!!

Nah, nothing difficult about that shot for a top pro, going in was a bonus. Leftie's wedge yesterday was far superior for me

EHHHHHHHH...........U WHAT............?????

Think about it, middle of the fairway, downhill, no shape required. For a tour pro there was nothing technically difficult about that shot. Great shot yes but as shot of the tournament goes, that wedge Lefty hit yesterday was technically far more difficult

If its not difficult how come there hasnt been an albatross or "double eagle" as the americans call it since gene sarazen in I think they said either 1935 or 1953

Oh yeah easy shot!

Just shows how fast and true the greens are when you can land a iron shot at the front of the green from that far away and it runs all the way to the hole!

Because albatross's on par 5 take a huge amount of luck. The fact it dropped in was a bonus but as I said, technically there was nothing difficult about the execution, the result was great but the fact it dropped in doesn't make the execution any more difficult.

Lefty's wedge was a high tariff shot executed to perfection that very few of the rest of the field could have played

Surely what turns a good shot into a great shot is the result though?

I agree there is an element of luck but you have to take the result into account when weighing up the merits of a shot.

If you're playing partner holed out for an albatross would you start telling him that you're pitch over the bunker was atually more difficult and therefore a "better" shot?! :)

It was great shot under the conditions and pressure of the moment. If it wins him the tournament, then it has to the shot of this years Masters. Similar to Phil's excellent shot from the Trees on the 13th in 2010

I'm not saying it wasn't a great shot, I'm saying for me it wasn't shot of the tournament, which was the question from the OP.

I would say it was one of the shots of the tournament, maybe there was a bit of luck but getting a albatross on a sunday at the masters to put you in the lead makes up for the "lack of skill"

No doubt Leftie's was a more skilful shot but Louis was to go on and win then it would have to get the shot of the tournament for being so iconic

You're all missing my point. If that shot had landed 15 feet from the hole it would have been great but it was an iron shot from the middle of the fairway and could have been played by any player in the field, much like the hole in ones on 16. I'm not saying they aren't great shots but there was nothing technically difficult about the execution.

Lefty's shot yesterday could only have been played by a few of the players and had a greater level of difficulty and for me was a better shot.

Don't worry Mike - I'm on your side...
The Albatross was a superb shot but it was a "bog-standard" fairway shot. His intention was to get the ball on the green. K.owing the slope would take it down to the hole, as long as he hit the shot well it was always going to go close.
Phil's wedge was one in a million..
