Hello again forum guys.I am hoping to get my last 2 clubs over the next month( u can see what I currently have in my sig),and so far I think a 50 deg gap wedge and a 22/23deg 3 hybrid will be the best choice, what do u think?Would another choice go better with what I allready have? Will another long range club be better than a 4th wedge ? Cheers, all input welcome!
:D

i think you are right when you say a 3 hybrid as you can use it for driving and in the semi rough,i also would say a 5 wood as you have not got a club that fits between ur 3 wood at between 220yrds to 250yrds and ur 4 iron of 170 to 190yrds this means choking down on your 3 wood which is very difficult, thats my thoughts

Thanks pokerjoke, had thought about a Nike dymo 5 wood, was kind of hoping the 3 hybrid would have bridged the gap between 4 iron and 3 wood! I think I might be a tad wrong but my short game is my best asset(even as a beginer),and another wedge is very tempting!

I think youve got it spot on but be careful what bounce you get on your wedges, if your playing more links courses then get a lower bounce and if you play on more parkland courses get a bigger bounce. Hope this helps.

I have gone back to a 4 wedge set up. I find I use them more than loading the bag at the top end. I now go Driver, 5w, 3 hybrid. I am not consitent enough with a 3w off the deck to use it in medal, and 90% of the time I hit my 5w further and straighter anyway, as it is easier to hit, even off a tee peg.

I have a steel shaft in my 3H, so it behaves very much like a 3i. If I had gone graphite at my c/f session, it would have been longer than a 3i, and maybe this is the way to go for you to bridge the gap between 3w and 4i. If you go this route, it is worth getting c/f on a launch monitor so you can see the distances different shafts give you.

Cheers guys! Owen,I mostly will be playing parkland, but want to give the links a go soon! My lob is 10 deg bounce, and my sand wedge is 12 deg bounce. The gap wedge I might get is 10deg too. Will this be ok for links?
Murph,I actually hit my 3 wood better from the ground than from the tee,so perhaps I am on to something with adding the 3hybrid with graphite shaft! Thanks again posters!
:D

10 degrees of bounce is good for both as its in between the lowest and highest you can get so it ll be fine. Try and get on a links soon as its cheaper at the moment and youll either love it or hate it but will test your golfing ability. Happy golfing and hope you find the perfect 2 clubs you are looking for.

The only problem I can see with a lot of wedges and its something I suffer from when I carry PW, 52, 56 and 60 in the summer is that you can have too much choice and that you can second guess especially when you get an inbetween yardage. Do you take a higher loft and hit a full shot (which with all my wedges is only a 3/4 shot anyway) or do you try and use a lowe loft and a more delicate touch. In the winter I find the ground too wet to justify my LW so put the 3 wood back in and carry the 52 and a 58

I think looking at your bag you definitely need something to bridge the gap between a 3 wood and 4 iron. A hybrid may help more out of heavier winter rough but both that and a 5 wood are great for the fairway and off the tee so I guess its what you hit the best.

Deke, how often do you use your 4i and what distance do you hit it?

Reason i ask, if you don't use it very often would you consider a 5w and 23* hybrid?

I personally wouldn't have another wedge in my bag with what you already have.

Will another long range club be better than a 4th wedge ? :D

I'd take a 5 wood over a 4th wedge any day.

You/we are allowed 14 clubs, so to me that's 1/3/5 wood and 3-9 iron (hybrid or not) and 3 wedges + putter.

I probably use my 5 wood more than any club other than a putter. Then again, I do like it off the tee.

Homer,my pw is 46deg,so a gap of 8deg till my sw seems quite a lot,and I could never drop my trusty lob! Is that gap in deg ok?
Stuart,I hit my 4iron about 185 yards with fair consistency, don't think I can afford both wood and hybrid until next year! (50deg gap wegde only £35!)
RGDave, think I will need to go give the 5wood a demo against a 3hybrid,may the longest club win !
;)

Im changing my Di7's for Ci7's soon which have a 44 deg PW
and i carry 48,52,56 deg Wilson Staff TW9 tour wedges so iv got pretty consistant distance gaps between all my clus now.

I would go with wedges too if i were you as its the short game that will get you the most scores for your handicap to tumble.

I would go with a 19/20 degree hybrid so it's playable from the rough but handy for par 3's longer than 185 yards (i.e. more than your 4 iron) but for which your 3 wood is too long.
Would add a 50-52 degree wedge as well.

Shame you don't want a 16 degree Taylormade Rescue Mid (stiff Graphite shaft) as i have one available for purchase! :D

Not sure that you need four wedges.I would go with a 5 Wood and 20 degree hybrid, then you have all distances pretty well covered.I have just changed my wedges to 52 and 58 degrees, with less bounce so thay are perfect for chipping as well as bunker play. You will need to be careful though as the bunkers on my course have high lips and not very deep sand, and sand play is the one part of my game that has not deteriorated over the years!
