Well known bandits

What was TM playing off, he really came onto the radar just over 2 years ago as a 17 handicapper and has been consistently cleaning up in all major comps across the UK ever since in singles and pairs along with his 4 handicapped dodgy partner always winning comfortably and even regaining previous titles off the same handicap/s from before!!

Organisers should be banning them if their handicaps are similar or the same from over the years, it keeps others from entering when you see the same names featuring over a number of years, its nothing less than cheating in my opinion and they know full well what they are doing, but hey, whatever floats their boat

47 points!!!! Blumin ek! Have to admit it is a shame when you can predict the winner.

There's 5 or 6 blokes at the my club that only play in the required 3 comps per year to allow entry to the 2 major ( big prizes comps). Last year after one of them won he said when questioned " why play more comps? It just makes it harder to win the big ones " he genuinely thought he was doing nothing wrong.

Technically not doing anything wrong though

I think some comps have "banned" some people - not sure if short game wizard is one of them

No not doing anything against the laws of Golf, but then again neither did Suzann Pettersen in the Solheim a couple of weeks ago, but there was an outcry that it wasnt in the spirit of the game.

This is not in the spirit of the game, players with artificially high handicaps need to be weeded out,
Dont get me wrong, we all have the ability to play well and amass over 40 points, its those who play a minimum of comps, and win the big ones again and again that are the problem here.

They were off 16 and 6

If they only play the minimum number to keep an active handicap then of course it looks dodgy especially if they play, practice, have regular tuition and so improve over and above the level of the existing handicap mark. How to police it though as they aren't doing anything wrong. Perhaps there needs to be a minimum of ten qualifiers at your home club in a rolling twelve month period (easily checked if organisers have doubts)

From the R&A
The amount deducted (i.e. the player’s "handicap") is calculated so as to be representative of the player's current ability and potential at the point in time that they play in a competition.

If someone keeps their h/cap falsely high to give them a better chance of winning a big comp, they are cheating in my opinion

Banditry is live and well at my cousins place.

Many play in two comps a week to get their handicaps up for majors and the winter leagues.

Playing a set amount of comps doesn't always cut this out. in fact, in allows the handicaps to rise further.

We have that one Bandit at our club, plays 3 comps to keep his handicap, practices every day without fail, and played in 3 finals in Finals weekend this year, winning the singles, Mixed doubles and coming second in the Mens doubles. Absolute rascal.

Surely all these could be used for H/C purposes, or at the very least a H/c review?

I just don't understand the mentality of it. There is very little achievement in winning a handicap competition and even less so if your handicap isn't accurate. You'd have to be a pretty sad individual to manipulate your handicap to win one. To do it so often that your name is recognised makes you pretty pathetic.

Is it just to pick up prizes? Maybe the answer is to have another look at the amateur status rules and ban these sort of competitions with trips to Portugal etc.

Beyond increasing the amount of qualifiers needed to keep an active HC - how can you "weed" them out ?

They are following the rules - they have fulfilled the requirements for an active HC

1 shot cut for a win of any kind. be it a qualifier or not.

If you want a prize you take a cut. what's wrong with that?

They were off 16 and 6

So TM has gone down only 1 shot since 2013 and has since been winning the Trilby Tour, HDID, Nike and many other National UK comps and then his partner KC has actually gone up 2 shots

I'm sorry but its so wrong its laughable, TM was banging in birdies and pars all over the Els course in one of the finals a year or so ago, I actually think he deliberately bogied the last couple of holes because he knew he had already won when he was something like 4 over gross!

Some people like their handicap to be about them winning whenever they play.

I played against a guy who i was giving 7 shots to, drove the ball 50 yards past me off the tee, hit his irons 2 or 3 clubs longer and was a pretty good putter.

never plays medals, says he doesn't like them, much prefers Texas scrambles and match play.

no kidding:rofl::rofl:

It is wrong

They need to find away to make them qualifiers or look at the prizes

It's a massive loop hole
