Waterproof Suit Advice

I'm looking to buy my old man a new waterproof suit for his birthday and was hoping for some advice on which are good quality suits, i was going to get him a set of Galvin Greens but couldn't believe how expensive they were.

I am looking to spend in the region of £250

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Bob-- We both have Proquip at the moment and they are fantastic suits but what concerns me is that they dont seem to be as expensive as they once were, therefore, are they still as high quality?

I'll give the search function a go and see what comes up.

If you want to buy Galvin Green look on Ebay always good deals on there,also there sizes are slightly smaller.

Would love to be able to buy a set of Galvins but he's getting other stuff as well so £400 -£500 is a bit much.
After reading other posters comments i'm going to have a look into the Proquip and Footjoy ranges

Galvins have a lifetime guarantee, cant go wrong, not sure why you think they are £400.00?? more like £300.00 a lot i know but worth it for the lifetime guarantee.

My jacket cost £180 down from £250 I'm sure you can get the trousers less than the £140 rrp, just need to shop around and have a haggle especially if can find some of last seasons which are basically the same as this seasons! The difference between my jacket and this years, the pocket is on the other breast!

Another vote for proquip from me. If its good enough for the RC team and all that. FJ's are pretty good too although you do have to watch the sizing of some of their products (slim fit)

I have had GG's and no issues whatsoever, thousand have had many different brands of waterproofs. And for each brand there will obviously be the odd pair that fail. From other posts GG have been given excellent praise for their customer service and exchange and repair practises.

Its best to view all opinions and make your own, dont let one persons bad experience put you off a world class apparal manufacturer.

Saying that look at Sunice, Sunderland and def Pro-quip. Footjoy also do a good range. Get yourself to a shop and see what the sizes compare to your current set up, and go for what fits and feels comfortable.

Whatever you get good luck with your purchase and please let other people have an objective review of your purchase.

Also don't buy the suit Ricky Fowler is wearing today at the Open 'cos it's a ladies suit!

after going out this morning I need new waterproofs, soaked through all the way down to the ankles - and that was with an FJ jacket so I won't be buying any of those.

Can't afford GG, tried Pro-Quip before without great success - is there a particularly w/p version?

I've just got the sunice tornado short sleeve waterproof jacket for £12 from sports direct. It will be getting it's first outing tomorrow so I'll let you know.

Sunderland. Kept me dry today!
Trouble was, I took the blooody things off mid round as the sun came out.

Started raining again and only put the jacket on. Wet trousers...... not big and not clever.

Had my Sunderland suit a couple of years but today was the first time wearing it in 'proper' rain, and it was perfect.

My wallet in the 'dry pocket' of my bag however was another story.

Got Sunderland goretex trousers. Bought them for £50. Goretex is goretex. Can't see how GG can be any better. Same material. Fleecy inside. Very nice to wear as sole pair of trews, bit warm as over trews. I tend to wear them for the full 18 if I'm expecting rain. Saves trying to put them on over others trousers.

Got three FJ red label jackets. Both fully waterproof. Never had a problem. The short sleeved one has seen plenty of action.

Currently sporting a Nike plastic bag. Looks like a bin liner. Stretchy material, short sleeves, bonded together, no stitching. Very comfy, and very waterproof. Reduced from £160 to £40 in a sale. I guess because it is a bit weird. I like it though.
