I need to get a new car, it will generally be used around town with little motorway driving and is unlikely to have people in the back seats. I'm thinking of getting a very new 2nd hand car with little mileage which hopefully shouldn't cause too much trouble and for my budget the 2 cars i'm looking at are the VW up and the i10. Does anyone have any experience of these cars or perhaps you have been looking to buy a car with a similar purpose as me but went for something else.

thanks

Hi,

I don't have experience but I have noted that all the usual suspects have said nothing but good things about the VW Up and it will also lose less money than the i10.

My daughter has a Kia Picanto (2012 vintage). Awesome little car. Only a 1 litre engine, but will sit at 80 on the motorway all day long and is fantastically nippy round town. Zero road tax and 50mpg as well. You could pick up a minimal mileage example for 7k or so.

Again, no personal experience from either but heard very good things about the Up! If I'm not mistaken, even the Top Gear trio praised it massively, and with no sarcasm whatsoever!

Some toe rag nicked my motor last week and had to hire a Hyundia i10. Was dreading it but it was a 1600 id. Went like a rocket, very good on fuel and had a good sized boots which would take several sets of clubs. Worth a test drive if your thinking of something to poodle around town in.

I needed a car for similar purpose, bought a fiat panda 100hp. Love it. It's an absolute riot to drive. Clubs go in the boot with the woods out of the bag, but in the boot.
Not as economical as some options, but the smile per mile is worth it :)

Nice car and you would get the balance of the 7 year warranty if you got a used one about a year old. This is shared engine/gearbox running gear with the Hyundai i10

Personally if you are going for the Up the go and look at the skoda Citigo as its the same car but cheaper from skoda.

Was just about to post the panda 100bhp. Cracking little motors, five doors makes them more useable also. The aygo is a great litre motor too.
