US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Don't care which entitled twit it is. Acting like a grown up and not deliberately damaging other people's stuff in the first place would be most sensible solution.
It’s not great when anyone does it

But I can understand why it happens especially in the US Open where it is tough

It happens in all pro sport - at some stage in their careers they throw a strop

It happened he will get a fine etc and move on

Some it appears just want to labour on it.

I’ll take someone smashing a temp marker or temp locker as opposed to spitting in the cup or damaging the greens or smashing a ball into crowds and not shouting four etc

Seem to be in the minority here but did not enjoy that at all, even the last few hours had enough about it to diminish how 'exciting' it all became. I watch golf to see the best golfers in the world display their skills; watching them play like my fourball on a Saturday when in the rough is not that entertaining to me. Rough should be penal, but shouldn't have double jeopardy - players trying to take their medicine is fine (costs a stroke), but even trying to do that didn't work. Balls within an inch of each other resulted in either good contact or a whiff. Some players looked very silly. The carnage that ensued when the course was close to unplayable was painful - really felt for Burns and Scott. To be fair to JJ, he did great and Bob had a great reaction, as did Hovland. Also, Hatton, who was being interviewed at the time, gave a fabulous endorsement of Spaun.

Just didn't feel like a 'fair' tough test to me, just too many variables beyond exceptional players control.

Rough deep off line is fine but just off the fairway is ridiculous

100% he got stiffed by the rules official there.
Water was splashing up all over the place with his practice swings and it was an obvious low point where water was gathering.

Fair play that he played it down afterwards
It happened to a few on Friday I think as well , Rahm playing out of a puddle

It seems he didn’t get relief because they believed you had to create pressure to bring the water up

Where as you could see when he was walking that water was coming up easily

It's amazing watching the fan club bending over backwards to defend golden child for his childish behaviour

If it was Hatton , Bryson etc they would be calling for a ban
That is a lie. Why are you trying to paint a false narrative.

I'm sure Hatton has thrown clubs lots of times. Many pros have. I've never seen anyone in hear asking for Hatton to be banned for it?

Are you completely blacking out or ignoring golden child's smashing up the tee marker?

Plenty of people suffer much tougher days at work than pro golfers.
A middle-aged man petulantly breaking other people's stuff because he played a few bad golf shots is pathetic.

Hatton has also smashed up a tee marker - don’t think anyone called for him to be banned

Think it’s happened on more than one occasion as well

Those people a mistake can be the difference between career ending or missing bills etc

Rory missing out on a few places finishes or missing a cut won't even make á difference to his bank balance

Doesn't know what stress is

I already mentioned that in an earlier post, several times. And, I wouldn't be against there being a rule that if a tee marker is moved or damaged in anger, there is a penalty. Whoever does it.

But this has gone beyond that, where apparently throwing the club down an empty fairway is a terrible act that needs some sort of punishment.

It’s all relative

Many at work aren’t watching by millions and aren’t playing professional sport for millions

Pressure is different

It’s petulant and right now or during the comp he wasn’t in a great place.

But it happens - they get criticised , fined and we move on

Well I must be in neither camp as I think they both deserve sanction for breaking course furniture. Throwing a club when no one else is close (unlike Clark) just looks petulant but doesn’t need to be sanctioned.
Repeat offences for breaking course furniture should result in more than a monetary fine.

I can't believe spaun didn't have the flag tended on the last 😬

😂

Guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder as most links courses are surrounded by great views , rolling dunes etc

Actually, many links courses in the UK lack beautiful views. The sea is usually brown or at best grey, and often there is no view of the coast at all.

For sure there are some courses with stunning views, but for every Turnberry idyllic vista there's a Porthcawl with its view of the Port Talbot steel works or Lytham backing on to houses.
