US Open 2025 - Oakmont

Again not what I said. I said it goes into the realms of endangering people. Regardless of if anyone is there or not if you throw a club that far you are completely out of control of it

I'm sorry the Rory fan club can't accept the golden boys behaviour since the masters has been worse than Hatton
That is not what you said, and then you pretty much go on to directly day what I said.

I'm genuinely trying to work out what the probability is that anyone could have got hurt by the incident in the video Arthur posted? I mean, it has to be zero percent, unless there was a chance that there is a person off camera, on a sports motorbike, about to fly into screen and into the path of that club. I mean, McIlroy was hitting a shot in that direction, so it is blatantly obvious there was nobody in that direction

If you think his behaviour is acceptable then fair enough.

Yeah, I personally don't care if golfers throw their clubs around. I don't particularly like it when they smash up teebox markers though, as somebody else has to spend time fixing that and/or tidying it up, so it's just rude really. Similar to hitting bunkers and greens, even if it's your own caddie that has to repair it, it's still rude.

Let’s review the definition of temporary water. This is taken directly from the Definitions section of rule book.

TEMPORARY WATER

Any temporary accumulation of water on the surface of the ground (such as puddles from rain or irrigation or an overflow from a body of water) that:
  • Is not in a penalty area and
  • Can be seen before or after the player takes a stance (without pressing down excessively with their feet).
The definition goes on to add a key caveat to file away: “It is not enough for the ground to be merely wet, muddy or soft or for the water to be momentarily visible as the player steps on the ground; an accumulation of water must remain present either before or after the stance is taken.”

A guy at my club had a new Square-to-Square Jailbird, he gave it to me for one hit on the practice green and I sank a 12-footer. Annoying as I'll have to buy one now. 😣
One of our members was extolling the virtues of their ZT putter..
Can't miss, swings itself etc etc....went on to make 38 putts in the round....... 😋

It’s just a temp polystyrene marker that takes minutes to replace

I dunno, my own putter went on to earn me five three-putts in the end so that only lent weight to theory that I need a change. 😮

Apparently it's fine to smash up the course if it's just something that can easily be replaced

Wouldn't be needed if people behaved

I don't think damaging other people's equipment is reasonable (i.e. tee markers), nor wildly throwing a club in a random direction when you are surrounded by people. Because luck plays a role in whether they get hit or not.

But, in the specific video shown, I have absolutely no problem with that whatsover. He hit an awful shot, and he was royally pissed off with himself. I wasn't expecting a club twirl. In every single sport, amateur and professional, athletes get frustrated and angry and times, and there are a hole host of ways that manifests itself in. Throwing a golf club into an empty piece of land is one of those ways, no problem to me. I bet it probably happens hundreds of times a tournament, mostly by guys we never see who are not making the cut.

Next time I'm playing a weekend comp I'll smash up a marker and just get one out my bag to replace it

It's fine takes seconds 🙂

Suspect you will damage your club as opposed to the marker

No idea why you keep trying to find some sort of relevance to a club golfer

Someone won a major , his first major with some brilliant golf at the end and you’re still crying about something Rory did on Saturday

If you want to obsess about Rory at least mention his great golf yesterday as well

In the grand scheme of things they are replaced regularly during the tourney

Did you want Rory to stop playing and then go and get a new marker and replace it
Don't care which entitled twit it is. Acting like a grown up and not deliberately damaging other people's stuff in the first place would be most sensible solution.

It's amazing watching the fan club bending over backwards to defend golden child for his childish behaviour

If it was Hatton , Bryson etc they would be calling for a ban
