Dear GM forum,

I heard from the lovely folk at MD golf today, answering my question regarding the swing/shaft weight of my rescue 3H.

What I have discovered is that this club is almost certainly not matched to the rest of my set. If is a great club (now for sale, probably) but doesn't fit me either in terms of swing weight or shaft spec.

My irons are all weighted D0 (it's taken my mate in L.A. a few days to find this out!) and my Driver, 3w, etc also D0. Even my ancient big bertha 5 wood (15 years old) with an old-tech steel shaft is also D0.

The swing weight on my rescue is D3-4, and the shaft has a different torque rating as well to my regular Aldilas/Fujikuras.

So, there we have it. Please buy MD kit (I can't fault the club in any way) and please buy clubs with pro launch blue grafalloy, BUT, please don't make the same mistake as me, try something and presume that the "odd" shots are just because you haven't got used to it yet!!! I loved it, but it's not right, nor will the clevelands be any good, it'll have to be either cobra or callaway (what a pity????!!!).

There we go, now you can go back to sleep!!! :)

Well, yes......

If I had swung the club using a detailed readout, I would have discovered that the face was more open than ideal. As someone who relies on straight/slight draw, an open face is going to produce a consistent push.

I thought I'd get used to it, but I hit 4 shots with it on Sunday, powerful, high launch etc. but straight right - about 15-20 yards!!!

i heard fellas from our local pro that to change the swingweight by 1 step or what ever the call it, they use a £20 note!! and that represents one weight will that club being out that much make that much of a difference? saw him changing a clubs weight in the repairs room and just asked him a few questions thought i would let you know,,.......... you could tie a bloody great big stone to my woods and i would still slice them ha ha lol all
play well!!!!

I'm sure that the swing weight will only make a small difference, sure, but I don't want a club in my bag that requires specific adjustment to my alignment or grip to hit it straight or get my "expected" shape of shot.
If I was to guess the biggest problem with an unmatched club, it would be more in the shaft I suspect. Either way, it's been an education finding out what/why I have struggled with this club.
