Hi

You may remember I was having a nightmare with the newly delivered, custom fitted MP-52's with Rifle 6.0 shafts. Well here is an update.....

I am now striking the ball very well, they feel excellent.

HOWEVER

I have a massive Draw/Hook with these clubs. I just cant hit them straight. This was never a problem for me with the X20's which I always hit with a very slight fade. There is no doubt the ball is coming out of the sweet spot & I have check my grip which is fine.

So, I need to go to the range this week with a 6i from both sets just to see if my swing has changed or if the MP52's are the caused of this horrendous shape. Of course I could live with a gentle draw ( couldn't we all !! ). But what I have at the moment is very destructive.

Is it possible they look and set-up different at address and you have the MP-52 closed when it looks to you like it's square?

I'm finally coming to that conclusion with my hybrid after weeks of wondering why it's the only club in the bag I hit a hook with.

Good question, I thought this might be the case, so I rechecked my grip and alignment at the range on Sunday, but was still hitting waaaaaay left.

Could it be the shafts?

Is't rifle 6.0 a bit stiifer than stif. I changed to an R7 superquad with a X shaft and am drawing this and my usual shape was a fade.

Check your ball position in relation to your hands - the X20 have a big offset in comparison so they would compensate for a poor set up position. your hands should be slightly ahead of the ball

I think it's the shaft that's causing the hook Rifle 6.0 is a bit stiffer than regular stiff. Is there any way you could try the same club with less stiffness just to compere strikes maybe a 5.5.

I thought a stiffer shaft would result in more fades. I agree though that the X20 have a bigger offset so I'd definitely look at ball position and also whether the clubface is truely pointing to the target (bit of blue tac and a tee will show you in an instant)

All good advice and thoughts. Will try the X20's and MP52's whilst at the range this week.

I also though the general idea was that the stiffer the shaft the less the hook, but don't know where I picked that up from !!

I'm fairly sure this is due to less offset on your 52's.

ok, thanks. So how do I over come this then to remove the horrible shape, as my club head is in the right position at set up as I see it.

A hook would not be caused by the shafts being too stiff.

Indeed, the exact opposite would happen. If the shafts were too stiff the result would be a weak shot to the right.

So, as the 6.0 Rifle shafts are stiffer than stiff it is highly unlikely the shafts are causing your problem.Unless you have an extremely fast swing.

Please take your blatant plug for business and do one. Not only do you sound like Craig Revel Horwood's (strictly judge for those wondering) love child but you look like Harry Potter on the range in those spec. Your cheesy music has been taken from a pron film (probably dubbed from your own collection).

In case it needs spelling out - we don't like liggers, free loaders and first time posters touting their wares. If you want to come on board and join in then maybe we'd cut you some slack.

Yes what homer just said !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really nice clubs though I am getting a set of them soon - not from you though :D

It's possible you are just releasing your hands better with the new clubs.. they probably just feel nice and you're able to just let loose on them :)

This normally only happens when you try new clubs at the range and wears off once you part with your cash - you are one of the lucky ones :)

I like the look of the 52's and rifle 6.0 is a good shaft if you swing around 100-105mph with your driver. Nice clubs!

Aha...

You could be onto something here !!

Releasing has always been one of problems, and the main thing for me to solve over the winter.

Could you expand on this a little, e.g why would it be that if I am releasing the club better my shape would be as severe to the right as it is ?? Perhaps it is causing a knock on effect somewhere else in the swing ?

Thanks.
