Upcoming live concerts.

So, I may have already mentioned in this thread I've tickets for Download this year. Mainly for Metallica, as will become clear imminently... Just booked tickets for me, the mrs and a mate, to go to both dates in Helsinki in June 2024!

Slightly closer in, I'll be seeing Kris Barras Band on Tuesday and Gentleman's Dub Club and The Skints at the Roundhouse in March.

Change of plans sees us going to see The Musical Box at the Hammersmith Apollo next Saturday, and then I’ll go again a week later to see them at Portsmouth Guildhall. Belle and Sebastian in July. There will be others between Feb and July. All depends upon what my lad is doing work-wise as he gets the guest tickets for us 👍

Thoroughly enjoyed The Musical Box at the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday. Had one of best seats in the house as a promoters guest 👍

They put on a very accurate recreation of the Genesis 1974 The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway show…down to the same slide show, pyrotechnics and lighting (very 1974), costumes and even the same words and actions of Peter Gabriel between tracks - and where the live show of 1974 contained minor tweaks to the album, they did the same tweaks. And their musicianship and vocals…superb. It could have been Genesis.

Really a bit surreal seeing and hearing live an album I first listened to almost 50yrs ago.

For Genesis fans…the encore comprised The Musical Box and Watcher of the Skies - with the same Watcher costume…brilliant.

Downside? For a crowd comprising 90% blokes ave age about 60-65 it‘s a long show without a break 🤣

Going again, this time with my Mrs, to the Portsmouth Guildhall show this coming Saturday.

Last night in Pompey with my Mrs for The Musical Box. Great guest seats again in middle of row H, perfect.

Was easy for me to love their reenactment and playing of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour gig for a second time in a week…but my wife was pleasantly surprised how much she enjoyed it. She’d never heard it before and it‘s challenging for someone not an early era Genesis fan, though she said she recognised The Musical Box from Nursery Cryme in the encore…though not Watcher of the Skies (as I only got Foxtrot a couple of years ago).

Really enjoyed Jack Johnson at the HammyO last night. Had to leave before encore though as we had to get back to Waterloo to catch our last train…🙄

Next up…Belle and Sebastian in Hull in a couple of weeks time. And in August, with any luck, one of the two days (tbd) of Rewind South festival in August.

The Hives have just announced a tour next year. Really hope I can get tickets for that. One of the best live acts you will ever see. Their recorded output doesn't even do them justice.

Pet Shop Boys next week at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Saw Lionel Richie there a few weeks back. Excellent outdoor venue outside of it taking forever to get out.

As far as venues…last night the HammyO was set up for standing in the stalls area. This increases the capacity of the venue from 3500 to 5000 - never sat in the circle before and its single tier is vast - fortunately we were in 2nd row with a fab view. Place was full and a great atmosphere.

As I don’t go for arena concerts (too big) I’m actually thinking that 5000 is the largest indoor capacity I’ve been part of - though Quo in the Glasgow Apollo back in 1976 might have been similar though I think we were seated in the stalls so more likely to be closer to 3500 of the HammyO.

Saw The Hives last Friday at The Emirates, they were supporting The Artic Monkeys…. They were brilliant, the energy of the lead singer is incredible!

Ticked the last 80s bucket list band off the list with the Pet Shop Boys last night at the Eden Sessions. Best gig I have ever been to. Tremendous two hour set playing all their hits. Neil Tennant still has it and really played the crowd well.

Saw them in Leeds last week.
Very enjoyable. I think it helps that Neil Tennant never really over-extended himself vocally, so hadn't got anything to lose as he's got older.
A bit like Teddy Sherringham always being slow...
Was the most specific demographic I've ever encountered at a gig though - I swear there was no-one born outside the 60s, and most of them between 62&66.
