TV Series - What Are You Watching?

I'm trying to keep interest in current series of Slow Horses, but it's slow and not sure if the 'rejects' thing has been overplayed. Gary Oldman and hos crew looking like homeless people and none with any real skill to think they were ever part of the security services.

I think that is being unfair. They all have some skills, they are just damaged in some way or are not quite slick enough in what they do. Add to that, they know they are not getting out of Slough House, Slough House is grim, and they sink to that level in terms of clothes, demeanour etc. Those skills will ultimately save the day, haven't seen the last one yet but that is usually what happens ;).

All of his tv series go the same way. Good story, decent build up, terrible endings. Every time. I've stopped watching them, they always make me grumpy by the end.

Are the books better? Do his books end in a better way?

His regular books are a bit outlandish, there’s one where a dog can suddenly speak and do magic stuff, it’s like wtf really? 🤣 His Myron Bolitar series is pretty solid, kind of fun but good characters.

I think if they are considered to having skills, MI5 need to review their recruitment policy 😁

Very slow this series.

I haven't seen the TV version but the books I suspect give more useful background to the characters

I watched the series first, then read the books. I'll start book 5 shortly. The series stays pretty close to the books and the characters are a very fair representation imo. The characters do get fleshed out pretty well but you can never match the depths of the written word. That's the same with all books converted into tv shows. Saying that, the tv show is a real pleasure, it is well worth watching.

Totally agree, it is currently our favourite tv show.

Started the first episode of series 4 of the Witcher yesterday. Ain't the same without Cavill.
I thought the new guy was remarkably similar 🤷.

I'm not 100% sure what is going on, so many characters, can't fully remember everything that happened in the last series. I just go with the flow watching it 😄. I don't worry about knowing everything that is going on.

Just finished Season 5 of slow horses. Really well put together at the end how it all links in, and without spoilers you get to see part of why Lamb is the way he’s turned out. Excellent writing and well portrayed by Gary Oldman and the next series looks to be set up well from the trailers.

It's one of the Hemsworth? kin.....he isn't doing a "bad" job.....Just hard to fit in as well as Carvill. Kind of like the Reacher flicks with Tom Cruise....I think they are fine but my wife just complains about them because Reacher is supposed to be a big hunk of a guy. Some things are just hard to accept....

He is physically similar, same wig, same leather gear, same whispery voice. I thought he did a decent job, definitely not a Reacher situation. I was surprised how similar he was. If it bothers you, it bothers you, one of those things 🤷

Good first episode, some suitably gruesome scenes.

Oh, I'll keep watching it. There aren't that many things on tv I like and it's just got that one little hiccup for me. Twitch....twitch......

Talking about depressing.... Getting towards the end of the 2nd season of Deadwood. I grew up in a logging community, worked with loggers, most of 30 years as a teacher......nothing comes even close to the number of F....., C......, CS I've heard out of that show. We had my wife's grandkids (13 year old twins) down for almost a week and we had to turn the sound down (they were upstairs glued to their phones) to make sure we weren't corrupting them:D. Olyphant didn't have to do much of anything different to take up the Raylan Givens character in Justified.

Loved Deadwood, depressing, funny, gory and I assume a fairly accurate depiction of the era. I still remember Calamity Jane's speech to the Primary school and how she describes General Custer, one of my favourite TV moments.

when you finish Season 3 they did a wrap up film which rounds things off and is worth watching.

Yeah, I looked online to see how it ended and it said the follow-up movie ended things pretty well.

When I retired in 2011 and moved back to the US for 4 years, we jokingly thought about moving to Deadwood. My wife likes the Doris Day movie Calamity Jane. They even had a house up for sale on Calamity Lane. But.....Deadwood isn't anywhere near anything. Lovely immediate area.....bit harsh in the winter which we don't mind.

Last episode of Hunted last night.

Enjoyable stuff, but so full of holes - like how did Alex magically get to Bromley from Dorset without a penny to his name?
