TV Series - What Are You Watching?

Have been watching Jin on Netflix. It's a Japanese drama in the "Life on Mars" vein. A surgeon has an accident and wakes up in the samurai era. It's a little far fetched at times, but I'm still enjoying it, will carry on with season 2.
I started this last night, based on your recommendation. It helped having seen Life On Mars, you buy into the premise straight away. Good fun, likeable characters. The overly dramatic music is quite funny, adds to the charm.

Anyone noticed the annoying lack of subtitles in some new shows? It happens in Landman where there aren’t any when the Mexican people are speaking. I’m not sure if it’s trying to convey what some “English speaking” characters are feeling ie wtf are they talking about, but it certainly annoys me 😡
Oh, I turned on subtitles and they were in Spanish 🤯🤣

Just started Night Agent Season 2 on Netflix.. S1 was good. It’s high quality action with lots of guns etc.

The BBC’s Bodyguard is a similar vein but yanks can’t do subtle

Coincidentally, I mentioned the music to Mrs Wedge just the other day, it’s a common trait in Japanese TV drama, you get used to it over the years 😁.

I’ve just got to the last episode but have an early doors run south tomorrow so it’ll have to wait.

An interesting aspect of the story though is that it’s based around an historically factual situation - the story of Sakamoto Ryoma, a famous figure in Japanese history.

Have enjoyed it thus far.

We tried the first episode last night, the way the characters run around shouting reminded me of “Monkey”!

The character mentioned by @need_my_wedge is definitely straight out of the Monkey acting playbook. The other characters are more restrained, but I'm only on ep2 so maybe not.

It's funny how well and how fondly Monkey is remembered by a certain generation, I'm in that generation incidentally.

I love the Throwdown but there's one contestant I really don't warm to at all. Said annoying person is rather good so not going anytime soon!

Maybe this should be in the Random Irritations thread.

Come on, fess up.

There is one that should have gone already,
Imy,
but somehow manages to cling on. It is either that person (I'm ignoring gender so as not to give it away), or
Francesca
to go next

I don't think anyone could argue with last nights decision.

I'm quite bored with Siobhan as well. She just tries too hard to be funny and it becomes annoying.

It's not so much who should have gone rather than one who irritates and is rather too competitive for my liking...Natalie "ooh shall I just can can" - "ooh shall I do the splits" - "ooh ooh ooh" - shrill voice, too much lipstick and just not the normal vibe I like in contestants. Phew, that feels better!

Steve and James are both amazing yet have a humble, quietness about them I like.

Agree about last night (or this morning in my case). Probably lasted a couple of weeks longer than they should have.

Ha ha. I did think it might be Natalie. Not a fan of too much 'what, me? I won?' with wide eyes etc. There is a fine line and she is just starting to cross it.

Sorry, I knew what you meant about being irritating, not that they should have gone.

There is a clear 4 now, the others are just padding until they leave.

Anyone seen Manifest?

I started watching it. The concept seemed really good, but 4 episodes in there seems to be way too much melodrama. Trying to figure out if it will turn out to be a decent watch, or end up being overly soap opera ish
