Any recommendations...especially those that might be darker, richer, fruity.....I'm a bit of a sucker for stuff aged in Pedro Ximenez or Oloroso sherry casks.I found it a bit bland. Been draining my caol ila, the last of my single malts. Started building up a collection of Spanish brandies

Just had a bottle of this delivered ready to warm me up over Christmas...

My mum,85, is very fond of a Whisky Mac with ginger wine from Aldi. Which she assures me is far superior to StonesLove a wee Brandy and Ginger![]()
Been drinking Laphroaig recently, not my normal dram, but I’m enjoying it with a splash of water.![]()
I’m just drinking 10 year old sherry oak cask, really not that bad, from someone who ordinarily loves a SpeysideIt’s too peaty for me. I like a dram with a hint of Smokey, peatyness e.g caol ila, but not Laphroaig.
I do like Laphroaig, done the half day distillery tour that includes the walk to the original water source. It’s too peaty for me. I like a dram with a hint of Smokey, peatyness e.g caol ila, but not Laphroaig.
Lagg Distillery at the southern end of the island makes a very peaty style of whisky, whereas Lochranza in the north is softer and more fruity. Lochranza was built in 1995 so modern-ish and Lagg is really quite new so very, very modern. Lagg is a lot closer to Shiskine than Lochranza.Heading to Arran in the Summer. Primarily a pilgrimage to Shiskine, but time for a visit to a Distillery. I'm aware of two on the island, but know little about Arran whisky.
Anything I should look out for?
