Planning on playing in the morning....it's going to be frozen up and I'm assuming temp greens. I kind of get a kick out of playing that way.....putting is a literal crap shoot. The ball just pachinko's around.....may go in....likely not. The purists will stay away....because it's not "golf". Like leaving the flag in, or using winter mats.....they'll hate it.

I've played on frozen greens a couple of times before. Obviously you forget the score and we just laughed our way through the round. Found it really funny to hit a green and watch it bounce 50 feet in the air and end up 20 yards long. As long as you're not trying to make a score it's a good laugh. Careful if your tees are on mats though as they get slippery.

I used to play at a links course that only closed for fog. Frozen course, no problem. Ever seen the plastic cup tees on string? Yup, we all had them because tees were never going in 😄. Want to putt from 50yds, crack on. Just treat it as fun, a good walk and a sociable game.

We hardly ever go to temp greens due to frost. It is only when the ground stays frozen for days that we do and is when the greens start to thaw out.

biggest thing for me is the number of unrepaired pitch marks you get on the green when there has been early morning frost and the second is the number of shoe indents on the green.

I only stop playing when it gets so cold that the balls crack open. Not such a big occurrence with modern balls but used to happen with wound golf balls.

Well, we used to accept that a winter golf. Great for keeping the muscles loose, getting some air and socialising. Get round quick and get back into a warm Bar!

I guess they'll be those who think this still needs to me a qualifying medal and take 6 hours over it😉🤣
I’m sure I posted about it at the time, but a couple of years ago I was playing one winter and we were on winter greens, there was a guy on a different hole who had missed the winter green and was a couple of yards off it in some light rough, the boy was crouching down studying his line, then actually plumb bobbed beofre he putted, left his putt so short (not greatly surprising out of the rough), crouched down behind his next one, no plumb bob this time, smashed it past, crouched down again looking at the line, smashed it back past, didn’t crouch down this time and smashed it past again, then scooped his ball up and walked on

One of my most enjoyable rounds ever was when the course was frozen last year. First green, pal hit a lovely 20-30 yard pitch onto the green, the ball pyonged 15 feet in the air and into the hedge, leaving us wetting ourselves… At that point it became just about having a laugh, trying to adapt but not worrying at all about our scores. Was a very interesting round, would do it again.

What greenkeeper doesnt close the course when the ground is frozen ??? 😮
Ours only closes for snow or when it's waterlogged. Definitely no hotel involved though.
Frozen golf is a good laugh. The 10th tee rum or whisky never tastes better.

The only problem i have with frozen golf is that some of our holes , literally, become unplayable.
Our 10th is 145 yards quite steep down hill and you have to clear a big bunker in front.
Pitch it on the green and, if frozen, the ball bounces into the garden that bounds the course
Pitch short and try to hop the bunker and when the ball pitches on the green it bounces into the garden that bounds the course
And if you play it into the bunker, which is frozen, you're going to thin it out, over the green and into the garden that bounds th...you get the picture.:ROFLMAO:
