I'm somewhere over the 150 mark at the moment and am donating some to my club for junior coaching.

So, how many should I keep for my own use on the practice ground?

I'm thinking 50-ish is enough.

I've got a bag with 30-40 balls in my locker at the club. I've also got another bag in the garage as I've got a great wee grassy area out the back gate where I can practice my short game. Just need the council to give the grass the first cut of the year now.

Funny you should post this. Just last week I was sorting mine out. I don't have a shag bag so putt about 40-50 in my shoe bag. I just bought a clicked tube so I don't have to chip them all into a small circle to collect em.

I was debating the right number to hit before I should stop and collect, 40 was the number I thought would be about right.

I dont know what the optimal number is, but I have about 120 in my bag, which is one of these. It allows a good session at the practice ground, until I have pick them all up of course !!

I have a pick up bag with 88 mixed type balls in for practice and a clikka tube of 20 used premium balls for short game practice.

Other than that I have another 250 in the shed, tried to flog 100 on ebay but no takers. Also new in boxes another 30 premium balls in house and maybe 15 in bag.

Total balls in the 400 range. :o

I have 100 balls in my shag bag which I use on the practice ground, and 21 premium balls in a clikka tube to use on the short game area, much like birdieman.

I would get too annoyed just hitting 40 balls and then going to collect, I prefer doing it in one go- it saves my legs from walking as much :D

Birdieman, amoungst the ones you tried to flog, where any of them soft?

I have allsorts in my practice bag but they are like rocks. I would like some softer ones.

Not really, there are some Titleist NXT's but a lot of pinnacles, maxflis and other pebbles etc.

I have around 100 premium balls in my shag.
I only practice with the type of ball i'm likely to use.

All the "findies" that are not premium balls go to my son and mate.

Have a bag of about 50 assorted rocks that I pick up with a clicker tube , so I get a nice 5 min break evry 15/20 mins. Got buckets full of spares in the garage for these

Also use another tube of 20 worn down premium balls for short game with another spare bucket for top ups.

Usually have about 15/20 spare new ones in the bag (you never know ) with about 4 dozen new ones in their packets in the garage.

Same as you Colin, I also have thast bag and find it can hold up to 140 max, generally leave some at home and use a pickup tube that holds 75 and is easier on the back.

I have a cally practice bag (TM do the most awful ones for some reason so can't get one to match my gear!). It holds about 120 or so and they are all titleist of varying types. I usually hit 40 at a go and then go out and pick them up purely to give my body and brain a rest and stop getting into "range mode" of whacking them without each one meaning something.

If I'm working on pitching or chipping I'll use the pro v's etc to replicate what I'll feel on course otherwise its whatever titleist comes out.

Well over a hundred in my bag, I think having more than enough is better than chasing after say 30, especially if you are getting into a good session and don't want to break it up. On our practice range I would start at the furthest point from the green/bunker end and hit a few woods up, then start getting closer and start playing approach shots fromm the longer irons to the wedges.

Well, we have everything ranging from 0 to 1,000....

Brendy, I take your point about "it's better to have too many" but I reckon that 50 will be enough for my purposes. In the main it'll be short game stuff that I am practising: 70 yds and closer.

Thanks to all who posted and, hey !, good luck to El Pato tonight !

I used to have 80 Titleist pro 100's all with my initials on, didn't use them enough which is why I'm in telecomunications now :-(
