Sorry it may appear to be rather negative but that seems to be what most Golfers are SURE about.

Only 10 options are available so add a comment if there are others- Thanks

I love the new club I’ve joined this year. Clubhouse and course are superb.

Cant see it as an option but my only gripe, and it’s one that’s been done to death in here is that there are no bookable tee times. Just rock up and wait if it’s busy.

Given I have small windows when I can tee off due to work/life, I like to know if it’s busy.

Our gents locker room is hard, cold and unwelcoming.

A few years ago it was renovated...the old carpet removed and replaced by grey laminate flooring, the walls repainted a sort of airforce blue/battleship grey colour. The old wam toned carpet and walls were much more inviting. Rarely is there any heating on and heaven forbid you might want hot water in the showers....the other day I heard one guy ask if, for the following week, the hot water could be turned on, so he could have a shower after playing, before going to work.

Sure i guess its now much easier to clean and maintain (though it seems that at any one time one of the urinals has a leak)...but hell, on a cold winters day there is no desire to linger for any longer than it might take to change your shoes.

...and if that's the biggest thing I have to moan about...things cant be too bad can they?

(ask me the same question 8 months ago and I'd have said the bunkers...but some real work and effort is going in to improving them...so the locker room it is!!)

On the whole I am happy with the club, only gripe is the catering. The kitchen closes too early (mid afternoon) so can't grab some food after an evening round - not going to be a problem for a few months. We also have a halfway hut that had sporadic opening times on a weekend, usually around student availability to man it and now it has gone to a vending machine only.
Apart from that, the course is in good nick with improvements to bunkers and drainage ongoing and the range has been revamped to have TT and lights. Staff are great in the clubhouse and shop, very welcoming.

Only one I've selected is practice facilities. We have a hitting area which is about 200 yards just about, and you have to use your own balls and collect them so it's not for me really. It's more just somewhere for the pro to give lessons I think. There's some kind of chipping green but it's literally on top of a small hill, so you can only practice flopping the ball on top of it - no use whatsoever for chip-and-runs etc. I think I used that once ever, and realised it was a waste of time. The practice putting green is fine though.

Reciprocal arrangements......
As far as I'm aware we don't have any direct reciprocals but.......
As a club we are members of the 1906 club and the James Braid Society both of which give us access to clubs founded in 1906 and clubs designed by Braid.
I don't know how good the prices are but they look like Member guest rates
There's a few hoops to jump through but there are some nice courses on the lists..
The 1906 club has Crans - sur - Sierre as a member.........tasty.

We're on this as well. I just found out about a week ago - 4 days after I played a course in Scotland that was also on the list. Fuming.

Presentation - voted as General Tidyness. We’ve done a ton of work these last few years rebuilding every bunker on the course and in the last two a huge amount of work on flood risk mitigation. As a result the general presentation of the course..paths, tees etc. has, understandably, fallen off a bit. If money was no object and we could employ another two or three greenkeepers…but it is.

Definitely the bunkers, something like 15 bunkers were completely renovated or newly added last year by outside specialist contractors, they are superb, there is a program to renovate a similar number again next year. But frustratingly a number of the original bunkers have received zero maintenance this year, such that many are now GUR. Perhaps because those are the ones that will be replaced, but it's just very poor to neglect them until then.

The Braid society is a good one, although make sure you are looking at current pricing. I nearly got caught by an out of date list relating to a course that decided it wasn't keen anymore and jacked it's price up. I used it a few times, managed good savings with it

It's an interesting question and I'm slightly with @PaulMdj in that I knew what I signed up for so accept it's failings. I've gone for bunkers as they are often poor, have been for years. Saying that, the way the course is, it isn't a big deal.

The changing rooms aren't great but then I don't use them so that isn't an issue. Same with practice facilities.

We don't have any reciprocals, which is disappointing, but again, I knew that before joining.

So, bunkers in first, reciprocals in second (although only one vote is allowed)

With Woodhall Spa having 170 odd bunkers it is a nightmare to keep them all impeccable. The substrate is sand with a lot of stones. So the course drains well but the stones always find their way to the bunkers.

Number of visitors is next for me. Too many of them!

I've voted bunkers, as it's the most suitable of the above options.
Though there is a program in place.
Plenty other work currently ongoing too.

I'd like to see a few more tee boxes dug up, LEVELLED, and relaid, a few uneven ones at present.
Though they did 2 last year.

Otherwise all good.....

Or maybe less visitors, though most club members don't want visitors do we🙄
