Beats opening with a bid of £70m plus, and Everton then trying to have our pants down because they think United are willing to pay way over the odds. They’re testing the water, that’s all.
It’s not trying to have anyone’s pants down, the low offer is based on the media rumours that we need to sell players by the end of june to beat the PSR regulations.

What really gets my back up is the media reporting he’s already agreed personal terms, if that’s correct then surely Utd should be investigated for making an illegal approach?

If it is correct, I’d also want to see Everton refuse to sell him at any price.

When a club values a player at over £80mil then £35mil is going to be laughed at , it shows really poor level of transfer negotiations when they difference is that wide - it was the same with Maguire , Sancho etc

That’s not testing the water - going in with £50mil would

They’re simply registering an interest. I’m quite sure United don’t expect that bid to be accepted any more than the rest of us.

Just curious, but where did you pluck £50m from? Why not £45m? Or £40m?

And, of course, from a PSR perspective, whatever Everton get for Branthwaite will be pure profit, so there is always the possibility that they will be willing to accept significantly less than the £80m being reported as their asking price.

Given that, United would be daft to go in high.

Ended up getting both players 🤷‍♂️

But again, is this fact or media speculation?

If Utd are working on the premise of us needing to sell, then it is Utd trying to have our pants down.

So Everton value Branthwaite at over £80mil - which when considering some prices paid in recent years seems a fair value

So what’s the value of Man Utd’s opening bid

£35mil ?!?

What was the point - and who on earth is submitting a bid like that

£80m + £35m = £115m
Meet in the middle, which is £57.5m ...................................... that seems a reasonable price.
Boom, deal done.

There will certainly be a lot of media and press naughtiness going on. No different with any big transfer.

Bottom line, a player is worth what the buying club is willing to pay. No more, no less. £80m seems excessive, especially for a player who couldn’t make Southgate’s final squad (which I think is a big mistake, by the way). Somewhere in the region of £50-60m seems a little more sensible.

Eh ?

Confused at why add 80 and 35 ?

I don’t suspect Everton will sell for anything less than £70mil

Man Utd tried low ball bids for a number of recent players and ended up paying over the odds for a number of players.

It’s part of Utd’s issues over the last 6 years plus when it comes to transfers for the club and it’s what’s crippled the club

It’s one of the reason why a football oriented DoF is key for any club

Seriously, wise up. You going to convince us you are now an expert in negotiating as well?
