Yes if done right is correct.
but we’re not doing it right atm.
we have no pressure on the ball and teams are walking through us.
great going forward but we’re shocking at defending atm.

Michael Carrick has Boro playing with wing backs. Midfield and attack overloads the opposition. It absolutely works for Boro going forward. BUT…although Boro have the highest goals scored in the Championship, they‘re mid table in terms of goals against. And, as you pointed out, if it’s not working teams stroll through you.

Sometimes, when I'm not really expecting it, LP's version of reality still has the ability to make me spit my coffee out...

Not sure why everyone always reacts when people rate players a touch differently- it’s all subjective

VVD was a very good player when he was at Soton , when we bought he plenty said we were over paying for someone who had never played in CL or at a big club etc so yes I don’t think you could call him a star - despite the fee , now that’s depending on what you define as a “star” - for me it’s someone who is world class , top of tree within Europe and I don’t believe either were considered that when we bought them. If people think different then no issues - it’s all subjective

Agreed Phil,it’s like when people have a difference of opinion on anything.
Better to just accept it & get on with your day.

Was told by someone who was in his company at last weeks U18 cup final that Mark Noble has said Carrick is his and David Sullivan’s #1 target over the summer… Would be V happy with that if true.

I dunno. Our fans aren't known for patience.. so an upcoming manager who will need to adjust and might actually need time don't seem to fit our fans or our boards MO

Well in our last three appointments, we have tried an old dinosaur in Moyes twice and an old has-been topping up his pension in between so why not give an up and coming manager who plays good attacking football a chance? His previous ties to the club should appeal to some.
Personally my 1st choice would be Potter but I would be also very pleased with Carrick.

We will probably end up with Lampard 😩

If Boro don’t get promoted, and a Prem team comes calling with big bucks I could see him going - who wouldn’t want big bucks and a Prem team. If Boro do get promoted… who knows…? He is originally from just up the road from Middlesbrough but, equally, what ties does he have with the area when his wife and children are still in Manchester?

No I don’t see them as stars when they were bought - very good players yes but everyone laughed at how much the club paid for both

A CB from “Southampton” and an Unknown GK who we recently smashed goals passed paying stupid amounts

But it will be down to peoples theory on what a star is - and certainly shouldn’t be judged by the price tag like some do

Jerry Maguire and Kepa certainly weren’t stats when they were bought for more

SHOW ME THE MONEY !!! ;)

Just watched the highlights of Liverpool Leeds.
No wonder nobody understands the handball rule.
VAR another mare there TAA that’s handball he moves his elbow to the ball.

great goals from reds but some very poor defending again that Leeds never took advantage of.

Delighted for Jotta as he looked a bit lost last few games.
Gakpo looks the real deal.
just need two class midfielders and we will be ok imo.
This article might help https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...pools-controversial-opener-against-Leeds.html Then again, given the explanation, I'm not sure it does! Here's the precursor info from last season's announcement https://www.premierleague.com/this-is-pl/the-premier-league/1849937

Again disagree. Maguire was one of the most highly sought after CB’s in English football at the time and they paid handsomely for it. He’s not turned out to be all that great for them, but he was a star signing.

As was Pepe for Arsenal.

Big money signings are star signings, they just don’t always work out.

VVD played a full season of CL group games while at Celtic as well as a number of CL qualifiers and Europa league games in subsequent seasons before leaving for Southampton.

Star signings and world class players are two totally separate things in my eyes.

In your definition, have Liverpool ever made a star signing?

Grealish - only did 2 years in the prem at lowly Aston Villa playing the relegation game. Star signing?

Grealish wasn’t a top player when signed , very good yes , and has potential to be great

And the last player that we signed that was prob what I would call a top player when we signed him was Torres

None the wiser after reading them.
the problem is one VAR refs handball is not another’s.
” to early in the move to disallow the goal” absolute bollocks!
it’s handball
