Good post and agree with the assessment that it will prob be done after we play each other and you guys get at least Wissa in

If I were Newcastle, and knowing Isak has a contract until 2028, I would just be confident that I hold all the cards. Isak will still be a valuable asset to sell next summer, or the summer after. I wouldn't want to feel bullied into letting him go, especially if it is going to be a struggle to make use of the money in this window to buy any sort of decent replacement. If they have to put up with a sulky player this season, then so be it.

Seen a fair few Geordies on Twitter saying the price tag should be £180m to Liverpool, £120m to anyone on the continent. Seems fair to me. 👍
 
Question on contract law for anyone who may know. If Isak is refusing to play, isn’t he therefore in breach of contract and are his wages being withheld?

Great question that I do not know the answer too.
On the other side could Isak claim restriction of trade or similar?
It could be a real minefield

I honestly don’t know how they should handle.
I suspect Isak will get what he wants.

If it wasn’t for financial fair play I suspect Newcastle could just let him rot in the reserves.

The owners of Newcastle could let him rot.
Newcastle football club can’t afford to.
It’s a shame but I agree player power will win, even if it takes a bit longer than hoped by Isak and his agent.

As Nick says - it will get done after the match vs Newcastle and for prob around £120mil plus a lot of achievable add ons

He is either going this summer for that amount or as each window goes by they prob lose £20mil

Now is the time where his fee is at the highest

They can’t afford to let him rot when it comes to PSR and wanting to bring players in though

£120mil is a big chunk that allows them big breathing space to bring in a number of players

They have a play off against the winners of one of the other matches that have qualified through league position but needed to go through qualifying


Edit - or do they play the winners of the matches between clubs that qualified as winners in low co officient countries

I sort of feel like the whole thing is a PR exercise which nobody is winning.

I think he'll end up with us and you'll get a stinking amount of money but whatever has gone on behind closed doors doesn't need airing in public. It does sound like the issues Newcastle have had with bringing in a replacement (or two) are now bizarrely working to their advantage now. This whole "I'll never play for the club again" thing is childish, whether there was a gentleman's agreement and the club had agreed a transfer this summer or not.

Is he the best striker around, who might be available? Yes. without a doubt. Is it worth all the upheaval that comes with this? I'm just not sure. There is a suggestion we could use the fee for Isak (plus a bit more) for Barcola and Rodrygo. Frankly, I'd love that.

It's all a massive game of Call my Bluff. It's nonsense. The most annoying thing is the behaviour of the player, which is always an issue as a fan of the buying party.

They play either Salzburg or Brugge.

Barcola and Rodrygo both reportedly around £100mil each

If Isak doesn’t come Barcola would be a good option

Not sure about Rodrygo tbh
