I’d be happy if they dropped the studio stuff completely, I am only interested in the match.
Didn't they do that during Covid? I have a feeling they did, just show the highlights one after the other. It was weird and a bit soulless.

I record MotD and watch it the next morning. I FF through the chat on the games I'm not interested in. It's a good halfway house.

I sincerely hope she was either misrepresented or quoted out of context. If you didn’t see it, about two months ago she went public to discuss husband Kenny’s prostate cancer, and the struggles he had recovering sexual function, a side effect of treatment.

She is quoted as saying that she found it difficult to remain patient with him. As a man who, myself, has been through what he has been through, I can say for free that if my wife had even hinted that she was getting impatient with me, I would have found it exceptionally difficult not to walk out the door.

I read, re-read and then read her comments again, seeking the true meaning of them. But I simply couldn’t find the justification in words which, however they are dressed, can only be described as humiliating.
Wow, I didn't realise that! As a fellow sufferer I find that absolutely appalling, and to even talk about something which should be kept private amazes me.

As for who would replace Lineker, I'd like to see either Mark Chapman or Dan Walker.
Please, please please not Dion Dublin!

That's exactly the same as me. Watch before golf on a Sunday morning, and fast forward games I already saw live, or fast forward pundits reaction unless there was something really controversial or any other interest.

Don't get overly excited about the likes of Deeney and Walcott giving analysis of games like Palace v Brentford anyway

The old goalhanger intends to hang around until summer of 2026.
Has he gone too early?
He does not get his state pension until June 1st 2027.
Perhaps he will have a testimonial year.
Hanging up his boots, out of contract and Bye Bye Controversies.

Will we see him more often at The KP eating crisps and cheering on his team?
We can’t predict the future, but Sir Gary (I’ve gone too early there, sorry) will be with us one way or another for some time yet anyway. I wish him well.

He hasn’t went yet, that’s for sure.

It happens 🤷‍♂️ as we see with many players during the game who launch rants at officials

Some get a yellow card , some get a warning some get a red card
Some get nothing though.
That’s part of the problem ,most refs are to weak.

Anybody rants in your face just send him off, it will soon stop.!

Just look what’s happening with pulling shirts because they have been letting it go.

I find MOTD just gloss over most controversial incidents.
They might mention one if we’re lucky.

Never saw the issue with Linekar tbh , don’t care about his political views or how much he is paid

Me either! Think he's pretty brilliant in the role to be honest - the pay is only that to match what he would earn elsewhere being a leading football pundit - no issue with that either!

Big shoes to fill, I've never known anyone but Linekar really! I was 6 when he took the reigns :ROFLMAO:

List of names from a BBC News article about who could replace Lineker:

Mark Chapman
Gabby Logan
Alex Scott
Kate Scott
Alan Shearer
Micah Richards
Colin Murray
Dan Walker
Laura Woods
Jake Humphrey
Kelly Cates
I'm not sure Micah can read, which will kill his chances. Shearer is never a lead presenter either, doesn't have the charisma. Pretty sure Cates is contracted with Sky? Murray has his hands full doing Countdown on channel 4 these days. It's a lazy list. 😂

I'm not sure it was COVID, I think it was one week where they all went on strike, led by Lineker or something?? Rings a bell.

Before him there was the legendary Des Lynam, and people said his shoes would be impossible to fill as well. I'm with you, I think Lineker has been superb. Won't be the same without him.

Its a bit of a minefield. I read somewhere that under the terms of the contract, they're quite restricted, ie limited amount of football they can show. They can show additional footage during punditry not shown during the highlights, and the time spent analysing each game must be in proportion with the length of the highlights!

I think that was when all the presenters and commentators refused to work when Lineker was suspended for having an opinion.

It was dead without commentary.

I wasn’t aware a pundit to coverage ratio. But I’d be happy with 50 min programme with no pundits.

I like Lineker.
Chapman or Walker for me. Can't think of any recently retired players with the charisma to host a tv show. I'd be happy if Shearer retired from MotD too.
I'd like to see them cut the ex-players and find a decent statto type similar to cricket's Andy Zaltzman doing the analysis. At least it would be interesting.
And get Iain Stirling doing some sarcastic commentary for the highlights.

I would like to nominate Ivo Graham for this role. And for the commentary actually, I'm not a Stirling fan. 😁
