I mean, I'll have to mention it. But, ETH did come to the PL to manage an absolute car crash of a club. Finished 3rd in the league, won the League Cup, got to the FA Cup final, and even looked good in Europe until Martinez got injured, no subs left and then the fragility of the players was all to plain to see.

So, in that season, I'd say he did well. Of course, people will only remember the second season, which has been much poorer for several reasons.

Anyway, how many managers finish their time in the PL and remembered with universal positivity? Even managers who have a very good season or 2 will eventually reach a period where the side struggles. At that point, few managers survive in the job, get sacked and their failure is remembered.
 
Chilwell is obviously very injury-prone, much like Reece James. Who the hell plays left back at the Euros given that Shaw has the same problem and Trippier has only just barely returned? Tyrick Mitchell?? Dan Burn?? This could be a problem.

lol, no man. He's been bad. Surprising he's still in a job at this point.

I keep seeing Trippier being mentioned. He has been poor at Newcastle for much of this season, only came back for the last game or two from injury. If we are relying on Trippier at left back, the cupboard really is bare.

I’m guessing that’s where Gomez comes in , he was very good as left back covering Robertson to the point a good number wanting him to stay in that role ( was during the good run of form after Xmas )

He's still in a job because Ratcliffe have looked around the place and probably understand that there isn't a manager who'd have succeeded with the present set up. I'm not going to make excuses for some of the decisions he made but if you look at the injuries and the players he was given (3/4th choice on the list) you have to feel a little sympathy with him. You also look at the decision of not strengthening in January, look at the strikers he had, reliant on the inexperienced (Holland) the out of form (Rashford) and the permanently injured (Martial) yet the powers that be looked at the front line and thought that would be enough to get through the season. Sure enough Martial got injured (again), Rashford has been carrying a knock plus a complete loss of form/confidence so you're then reliant on a guy who I personally think will be a very, very good striker but shouldn't be left on his todd to score United's goals on his own.

I also think that ETH might survive due to the lack of a suitable alternative so INEOS will keep him in situe whilst they try and sort out the mess behind the scenes instead of bringing in yet another manager and watching them fail. If they hand ETH another season whilst they try and stabilise if he fails again INEOS can point to him being part of the previous administration and they can bring in their own manage when, hopefully, there is a little more stability around the club and the chances of a manager succeeding are increased.
 
The Southgate boo boys might be a bit disappointed today :)

How Rashford has fallen. Start of the season, he was man Utd's golden boy, while the younger players in the squad could look up to him for inspiration. End of the season, he can't make the Utd team, doesn't get into England's 33 man squad whilst young Kobbie Mainoo gets a spot (fair enough, different positions and the competition in wide attacking areas is fierce, but even so).

Good riddance to Henderson, in the nicest possible way. That should really have been the case as soon as he went off to Saudi Arabia in my opinion. Little bit of talk about Sterling, but he was surely never going to get in. He hasn't been getting into the team in recent history, and now players like Eze, Palmer, Bowen and Gordon have already passed him in the pecking order since he was last a regular England player.

Must be some hope that Luke Shaw will be fit in time, in a position England think they'll struggle in, to get picked after being out for months, and not looking that fit even when he was playing.

But, with the real breakthrough by Foden this season, has Southgate finally realised that it will be impossible for him to stick with only having one attacking central midfielder in Bellingham, then two defensive? If fit, I can imagine the following starting line up for the big games, in a 4-1-2-3 formation:

Pickford

Walker, Maguire, Stones, Shaw

Rice

Foden, Bellingham

Saka, Kane, Palmer

Of course, he'll have to get rid of 7 players for the final squad. That will be interesting again, what will he do then. A while ago, I felt Toney would be nailed down to go. But, I've barely seen him mentioned in the last few months, he obviously isn't scoring. Has his form disappeared completely? I'm now thinking Watkins is nailed on to go.

I still can't see Southgate going that gung-ho. Even with no Hendo or Kalvin in the squad, I think it's more likely he plays Gallagher next to Rice, then a three of Saka - Jude - Foden. Would love to see your line-up in the group stage against some poor opposition, but in the latter stages I think he'll certainly go the secure option. Not that Gallagher is particularly secure though, there isn't anyone else. 😂
