How things have changed….

IMG_9781.jpeg

Frozen pitch so training was done on the forecourt!

Clyde best, Bobby Moore, Jimmy Greaves and Trevor Brooking being watched by John Lyall.

Think it was around 70-71 season judging by the prices being both pre and post decimalisation… 60p for a seat!😆

Here is the testing one, who is second from the left? Genuine question, I don't know the answer.

I saw Leicester when they came to the Etihad. They battered City that day 3-1 and it could have been more. That season was as open as any I can remember and is probably how we would like the Prem to be every year ( unless you’re a city fan). 😉
I honestly don’t think Leicester got the credit they deserved
Can anyone else see the irony of a person referring to a match between 2 teams, both with the prefix 'City' and only using the term 'City' to mean his own team, if the other City aren't worthy? When I am talking football to someone new and they mention they are a United fan, I always say that I support Rotherham United as well and ask if they have been to the New York Stadium ;)

They are a mile off it now but in my opinion they are a much better side than they are showing.
With a couple of good signing (seems mad saying that) they will be top 4 next season.

I think the problems run far deeper than on the pitch.

When you have millions of pounds worth of talent either on the bench or not even in the squad, the atmosphere around the club is likely to be absolutely toxic. It simply can’t be healthy.

I’ve said it a couple of times now. When pundits talk about them only needing a striker they’re missing the point by a country mile. Chelsea’s priority simply has to be trimming a ridiculously bloated squad and getting rid of some otherwise great talent that they should never have bought in the first place.

The new manager has a massive, massive job on his hands.

That’s where 8 year contracts are going to be costly.

Wigan have been docked an additional 4 points for financial issues. This means they will be starting next season on -8 and could drop straight through League 1. Hard to believe they were a Premier league team only 10 years ago (as well as being FA Cup winners in 2013)

Another club suffering after trying to spend to keep up

If big clubs buy there positions, that rules out Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs as big clubs, all had aspirations of finishing in the top four.
I wonder how much it will hurt Liverpool not finishing top four re transfer targets.
Chelsea I don’t know where to start.
Ditto with Spurs.
Come what may, it’s going to be an interesting end of season for those clubs and a few others.
I mean their positions at the top table.
Obviously it's not who sounds the most tops it. But historically the only way to break the top 4 barrier is excessive cash.

Chelsea did it and City did it to the extreme to getbtheir, Newcastle will have to do it to continue too. Liverpool, arsenal and UTD continue to spend to stay there.

Spurs, well they're just Spurs lol

Honestly, we just got lucky with very good scouting and a good manager at the same time for a few years. Not dissimilar to what we've said about Brighton lately, only we went a bit higher than them. Our 16/17 team was incredible, players like Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dembele, Walker, Eriksen, Son, Dele when he was good, and really none of them broke the bank in terms of transfer fees. Kane cost us nothing of course. Since then we've spent vastly more money on players who weren't half as good. I can't see us having a team like that again for a long time now. We might scrape 4th if we get a good manager and other big teams have another poor season like Chelsea and Liverpool have. But really I think we're playing for 5th/6th if Kane stays, or top half if he leaves.

Sounds a lot like what we did at Leicester and look at us now. We won on great recruitment and finding absolute bargains. With the rise of other clubs, if Spurs lose Kane and do not get the managerial position filled correctly, Europe goes out the window, the sort of names you could attract drops, the others get further ahead etc. It is a long climb bak then. Worrying time for a lot of clubs now as you now have to start looking at an annual transfer budget of maybe £200-£250 million just to keep up with the rest., more if you need a rebuild.

I know I am not a big football fan but, as an outsider and a supporter of a lower level club, I would honestly be happy to consider the big spenders going off to a league with no FFP where money wins and leave a competitive domestic league where clubs on an average budget can all be competitive.

That sounds like the European league they tried to get off the ground a couple of years ago 😄.

I wasn't fazed by the suggestion when it came up for the reasons you gave.

Really did not faze me either. There are worse ideas than splitting those who want to spend billions from those who do not or cannot.

Maybe a limit is needed.
say you can only spend 200/250 mil of new money .
anything else must be financed through player sales .
sure they would find a way around it though.

Seriously which words are you struggling to read. The sentence Starts “ I saw Leicester when they came to the Etihad. They battered City“. I am a City supporter. Am really struggling to see a point in what you’re saying. Furthermore why do you have to explain that you support Rotherham United. Is there a Rotherham City, Albion, Hotspurs, Palace, North End, Park Ranger, Wednesday, Town, etc etc. there certainly is irony in your comment especially when I am praising Leicester ( City).

Must have missed the irony in my ironic post 😀

After winning 2 trophies and taking PSV to 2nd in the Dutch league (yes, I know its "only" the Dutch league) RVN has resigned with immediate effect. Cruyff didn't want him to leave but he still decided to resign.

Premier league bound ????
