The edict to players now, in the PL, is to play until the ref blows his whistle, unless it is a head injury. I'd expect my player to carry on until the ref blows, they are the one in charge.

I'd applaud him!
I'm sure it depends on the situation

Martinelli is running through on goal in the last seconds of injury time against City next Wednesday, with the scores level. Only Stones is running back with him. Suddenly Stones pulls up injured. Martinelli stops running at goal and kicks ball out of play. I wonder how many Arsenal fans would applaud him?

For me, injuries are just part of the game, and unless serious or a goalkeeper is injured, I think it would be a good idea for teams to always play on. By kicking it out, I sometimes feel it encourages certain players to feign injuries at times to try and halt play. And, if unsuccessful, sparks a mass brawl (sometimes ironically including the "injured" player themselves) when one team is angry the other didn't kick it out of play.

Yep, I agree, unless it is clearly a very serious injury then you play on otherwise what is to stop a defender who is in a foot race with the oppo striker suddenly pulling up with an 'injury'.

VAR has explained the decision not to award a penalty was basically because there were three United players in a congested area - in short, arms and legs everywhere.

Hmmmm. Not sure that’s right. I think we got away with one there. Not sure that it would have warranted a yellow, though.
Absolutely ridiculous excuse, really.

So, with that going forward, I assume that any passage of play in the 18 yard box with more than 3 players of the defending team involved, teams can just flail their arms and handball all they want and it's not going to be ruled handball.

As you say, you've dodged a bullet/been offered a bit of big 6 bias - whether it would have been a yellow or not is a fair question, I'll grant, but most handballs in the box are now automatic yellows unless you're directly preventing a goal scoring opportunity, in which case it's a straight red.

Are they? So, not only does a completely accidental handball that does not disadvantage the opposition suddenly give the opposition a penalty, but the player also gets a yellow card for a complete accident.

My my, the rules of football really do need a serious review :)

Why would a handball in the box be an automatic yellow card at minimum, but not just outside the box?

I don't think they're the *actual* rules, but then I don't think the league know what the rules are when it comes to handballs and make it up as they go along anyway. So your guess is as good as mine. :)

Most neutral pundits and even a large chunk of united fans (including the two I was sat with at the game) all agree that it was handball by the letter of the law. It's only Dermot Gallagher who's defending the decision not to give it so that it saves the embarrassment of them having to issue another apology.

I've never heard of a handball not being given because there's "too many bodies in a congested area".

Also, Scottish Psycho would have battered it home with his rock solid head had ol' slabhead not handled it, so it definitely gave us a disadvantage ;)

I'm a Forest supporter. I didn't think it was a penalty.
Look to the way we're playing rather than refereeing performances, if you want to see why we're in the bottom three.

I agree with you re 'depends on the situation', but I answered the OP re the specific situation posted. You should have quoted the OP, not mine.

What did you think about the 3rd Liverpool goal at the 2006 FA cup final…Carragers actions were described as “unsportsmanlike” ?

Personally I’ve always thought it was poor but that’s how you win tight games.

Sorry but what Carragher actions 🤷‍♂️

😂😂 Please elaborate why? Completely missed clearing it with his head and it hit him in the arm, which was not in a “natural position”. I fully expect an apology from the league tomorrow.
Once again, folk are blaming VAR for something that they may well have been prevented from reversing! The conversation with the on-field Ref could well have included discussion about 'natural position' vs where it was with 'arms and legs everywhere'. So maybe another case of 'not a clear and obvious error' so VAR can't change!
