Not quite all. A couple of charges couldn't be decided so they may re-trial for those only.

If he is eventually found not guilty of all, what a mess. He has lost peak years of his career, his club have presumably lost a fortune in wages, have had to buy a replacement, his value will have dropped significantly. No idea of how to get around this once charges are made but it is not great as it stands.

I can only assume if found not guilty of the other 2 crimes that he will then counter sue for lost career earnings...

If the fundamentals are sound, good fanbase being critical and you have that, then hopefully you can rebound quite quickly.

A friend of mine used to have a loose involvement at Gateshead FC. The wages these guys were on was crazy, completely unaffordable with the money they had coming in. They had a local benefactor supporting the club but when he pulled out the next person had to correct the finances. I think it took about 2 owners to get the club back on an even keel and bring some sense to things. Scunthorpe have the advantage on people through the gate so whilst you may have to let some big earners go you will hopefully save the club.

Yeh I think we'll be ok in the end, but I can see us dropping down to national league north to rebuild. We'd be one of the bigger clubs in there so hopefully we'd be back up in a season or two.

Just reading up about Scunthorpe, I found out that is were Kevin Keegan started his playing career. They would have 5-aside training in the concrete car park, and that he and a few other players would take it in turns to drive a mini bus to away games. That is football in the late 60's / early 70's for you.

We also had Ian Botham play for us! Then we developed a number of decent strikers including Gary Hooper, Billy Sharp and Martin Patterson. Then we had Sam Johnstone the goalkeeper with us, and Jack Cork.

I thought there were business laws against this sort of asset stripping.
I recall the missus acted against the York City owner when he sold the ground to a company owned by his missus or something. There were some other clubs she had dealings with, they were doing similar dodgy deals but they all eventually got caught, pretty sure Leeds was one of them ?

I'm not sure about legislation, but I know the EFL and National League are both involved with the potential sale of the club. You'd like to think they'd be looking into his gambling problems as well. Especially as they started round about when Ivan Toney's gambling started as well.

Regarding Mendy, and with his career at least, I believe being found Not Guilty means very little. The fact that the accusations were made, there will be many many people that will always see him as guilty, and he just got away with it. I bet Mason Greenwood will be the same.

Would a big club, or any club for that matter, want to sign either of these players (or keep them signed) if they were found Not Guilty, knowing the backlash they'd get from certain groups? No doubt they'd lose sponsors as well, who would either vocally leave my saying "this player does not match our set of values", or just quietly slip away (or stay away) and invest their money were there is likely to be less controversy.

I bet the mainstream media reports on this won't be along the lines of making it a positive story for Mendy, but will spin it as a story that he got away with it. Asking as many people to comment on it, by saying what a disgraceful outcome it was.

You're right, I doubt either play again in this country, there could be a chance abroad if they can be bothered but maybe not. I suppose Greenwood is still very young so could forge a career somehow still in football, Mendy is 28 so the ship isn't far from sailed.

His career isn't over, it will be if the second trail goes Against him

Take ched Evans after his conviction was over turned he is still playing now

So if Mendy is found not guilty and ched was guilty before appeal his career can't be over surely

I'm not sure I said it was over completely. I just meant it will be ridiculously more restricted than it would have been if there was no trial at all.

In regards to Ched Evans, clearly his conviction did have a big impact on his career, regardless if he is still playing now. There were many many barriers with him signing up to clubs after his conviction and release from prison, with several clubs showing interest and then having to u-turn after the backlash. I know he eventually got things back on track, playing for Chesterfield, Sheffield Utd, Fleetwood and Preston. I don't watch or hear about football at that level, so not really sure what the public reception has been to these moves?

Bit different for Mendy though, in that he is a player for one of the best football sides in the world. He can't hide under the limelight, even after a few weeks, months or years have passed. Nearly every game is televised, reported on in the back pages and discussed on forums. It means that groups who detest Mendy will always have him in view, and will always be happy to express their opinion on him (with Ched Evans, unless you are a die hard football fan, supporter of teams in and around his level, he is quickly forgotten). To be fair, I don't know how City or other clubs will act. I just suspect that City won't be rushing to offer him a new contract, and that other big clubs will not be rushing in to sign him up, even on a free. Clubs that may have been very happy to had this accusation never been a thing.

Ched Evans came out of prison and was on verge of going back to Sheffield United until Jessica Ennis hill said she would want her name removed from the club if they signed him

Then he had his conviction over turned and his moves werent a problem

Don't think he ever got a public apology from her tho ?

If he is found not guilty he won't have problem finding a club the only loser will really be city due to his value dropping (but wasn't he rubbish anyways?)

Only time will tell, I guess. I just think having an accusation or rape against your name is more of a hindrance for anybody in the public eye and their career, rather than having no meaningful impact.

That's point tho, it shouldn't ever be if you are innocent.

That's the entire point of courts not trail by media

Which is why greenwood is stuffed

She made it public so the police had to act. If she had gone to club that would have gone away. Paid off. 100% like many others before

But giving police evidence in the public domain she can't even drop the charges now

Exactly, which is why I am saying what I am saying.

Not guilty doesn't necessarily mean innocent, but because of that, Not Guilty just means Guilty without charge to a significant number of people. Hence trial by media, and hence accused people having their lives twisted upside down, even if they are innocent and found not guilty.

I've not followed the Mendy case at all really, just been background noise. But, the background noise I heard suggests that the media were definitely focusing on stories that make Mendy out to be a pretty sick individual. Almost as if they've assumed he is as guilty as sin, and trying to share as many "juicy" details as they can in the meantime. The only think I heard that made me feel it might work to Mendy's credit was that one of the accusers was also boasting about being with Jack Grealish on the same night (after being with Mendy I think).

Not guilty is just that. Not guilty

In the eyes of the law

Yes, in the eyes of the law.

But, the law doesn't award contracts with football clubs

I'm sorry under the employment act he is covered. Its not a conviction he wouldn't even have to declare it

They could be taken to court if they pulled an offer because of it

Why would this even happen. Let us say this never happened. Perhaps he'd stay at City with a new contract, or perhaps he'd sign for another big club at some point.

But, it did happen. So, maybe City let his contract run out. And, maybe the big clubs he WOULD have gone to simply never bother bidding for him at all. Can Mendy take all clubs to court for not signing him up, under the assumption they would have signed him has he not had these accusations made against him. I don't think so. If a club makes it clear they are not interested in him because of the potential public reaction, maybe then he could do something? But, a club has no need to say anything publicly. Just stay quiet and never have any association with Mendy at all.

I don't think it matters that it is not a conviction he has to declare. By default, the accusation is well and truly declared, whether he likes it or not.

I'm not sure it works that way, unless it was deemed malicious. Considering that the CPS decide whether to prosecute or not, it wouldn't have go that far if malicious, I'd have thought ?‍♂️. Beyond that, I think city have been paying his wages so whilst he may have missed out on bonuses he has still been paid.

He won't have problems finding a club, it just might not be the level he was before .. might be a move back to France etc.

No he won't be able to sue for loss of earnings but your missing the point no club can not offering him a contract because of his non conviction

They don't have to go for him correct but there is no legal reason to stop him signing for anyone

He will be a free man and no convictions and not on the register.

Exactly. That's why he can't of been sacked incase he had proven to be innocent.

If found guilty they could sue him for payments made
