top six is going to be really interesting...if Liverpool and Brighton win their game in hand then there will be six clubs on 29-35 points from third down to 8th.

Nice to see it so competetive with different teams in the mix.

Sacking Potter would be incredibly stupid. He hasn't had the full squad to choose from.

I do think giving Tuchel the push was stupid too.

It seems there was an awful lot about Tuchel’s sacking which hasn’t been reported. Suffice to say several pundits I see quoted about his departure seem to be in complete agreement that it was the right thing to do.

I do think that Potter hasn’t had much luck, but equally it seems that he doesn’t seem able to make the most of what he actually has available. So many players have underperformed this season and there comes a point where you have to start asking why.

I think he’s in big trouble.

Villa v Leeds tonight, looking forward to yet another visit to Villa park (3 in 2 weeks - feels like ages since our last away) made sweeter under the lights

Always a heated affair since the shenanigans of our match in the championship way back in 2019.

I've got a bad feeling about tonight, we seem to play better against teams above us in the table but struggle with teams lower down.

Fingers crossed Unai comes up with some magic though - we could do with some!

Up the Villa!

@Newtonuti wow. What an appalling story. Splitting the assets of a club, transferring ground and often training ground ownership, is sneaky and crippling for a club. Hopefully there is some way back.

It's absolutely devastating mate. We actually get one of the top 6 average attendances in the National League, however due to how badly the clubs been run, we find ourselves in this mess.

Apparently there's two or three interested parties now, so fingers crossed for a takeover soon!

If the fundamentals are sound, good fanbase being critical and you have that, then hopefully you can rebound quite quickly.

A friend of mine used to have a loose involvement at Gateshead FC. The wages these guys were on was crazy, completely unaffordable with the money they had coming in. They had a local benefactor supporting the club but when he pulled out the next person had to correct the finances. I think it took about 2 owners to get the club back on an even keel and bring some sense to things. Scunthorpe have the advantage on people through the gate so whilst you may have to let some big earners go you will hopefully save the club.

Just reading up about Scunthorpe, I found out that is were Kevin Keegan started his playing career. They would have 5-aside training in the concrete car park, and that he and a few other players would take it in turns to drive a mini bus to away games. That is football in the late 60's / early 70's for you.

I thought there were business laws against this sort of asset stripping.
I recall the missus acted against the York City owner when he sold the ground to a company owned by his missus or something. There were some other clubs she had dealings with, they were doing similar dodgy deals but they all eventually got caught, pretty sure Leeds was one of them ?

If you can’t see that that chant is homophobic I don’t know what to say. I’ve been to the Amex enough times to know it needs to be kicked out and the only way to stop it is to kick people out on the spot.

Sitting next to a steward and being called a “f__king queer c___” by the idiot across the netting and asking the steward if they were gonna do anything to be told “nah mate it’s not worth it” doesn’t bode well.

Wow Mendy not guilty on all charges ?

To be honest it don’t suprise me, just read another story about a girl who was raped by a guy. A year later she got an audio of her rapist admitting what he had done. The Jury could not reach a unanimous decision even though he admitted it ?
Mendy has spent a fortune buying the best. Don’t think the case is finished though, I think there’s a couple of cases to look at.

Not quite all. A couple of charges couldn't be decided so they may re-trial for those only.

If he is eventually found not guilty of all, what a mess. He has lost peak years of his career, his club have presumably lost a fortune in wages, have had to buy a replacement, his value will have dropped significantly. No idea of how to get around this once charges are made but it is not great as it stands.
