So the clocks go back tonight, I have noticed on the news this week that there is a big furore about it.
Personally I don't really see the point, it will be a bit lighter in the morning for a wee while then it will be dark again, then again it will be dark at 4pm, grim. :(

I would prefer us to move to the same time zone as Europe, which would give us an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

I don't like it when the clocks change, having an extra hour after work would get people out exercising, save energy, give me more time for golf and generally makes things brighter.

As for the mythical Shetland Farmer who will forever be in darkness, just get up later if its a problem!!!!

What's everyones thoughts, for or against?

I hate the darker evenings.

Surely any golfer would prefer to have the extra hour of light and it be darker in the morning?

I've never really understood it. YOu get the same number of hours daylight no matter what the "time" is. Whay keep moving it and confusing everyone.
So we get an extra hour in bed eh?
Great that means I'll wake up at 4.30 instead of 5.30.
Super.........

Load of p!sh cos i've got to do a 16 hour night shift tonight instead of a 15 hour shift :(

Couldnt give a stuff whether its morning light or night-time light tbh. We have this debate every year and nothing ever gets done , all the yummy mummies like to drive little Tarquin and Chantalle to school when its light.

Agree its time they did away with it, can't see the point. Farmers Tsschh!

On a more positive note only 8 weeks and the days will be getting longer again!

Someone mentioned to me that there was a bill being voted on in parliament or lords to adopt the same time as most of the rest of Europe.

Not really fussed to be honest but I can see the argument for changing to the rest of Europe and how it would be better to have more light in the afternoon. Can't see it getting changed anytime soon and we'll probably be taxed for the daylight before anything else happens

As much as I want it changed as a golfer, we sell stuff with a 5 year warranty with automatic summer/winter change over built in, so we get it all back? Not good.

There is a finite amount of daylight hours available at given times of the year.

and I have no problem in moving that slot about to give us the best deal

I know, how inconsiderate to want to hang on to this BMT thing, let's go with the French etc, who cares about Scots schoolkids getting knocked over in the dark or the bloody farmers ... just give us more time for golf practise..... when it is knee deep in snow/mud/rain or cold enough to frighten the brass monkeys.

What do we actually gain - about a month of lighter mornings for a longer spell of darker evenings. Either way the kids are out there in the dark.

Between Oct 1968 and Oct 1971 the UK stayed on GMT+1. The initial analysis of accident statistics showed that while there was an increase in the mornings there had been a bigger decrease in the evenings. The fact that this coincided with the introduction of drink-drive laws obscured the results and it's never been repeated.

Its almost depressing. Had a great summer of golf this year and time to practice in the evenings on a grass range. Now...back to artificial grass matts and range....
