The all things EV chat thread

Been doing a lot of cycling lately and have noticed how noisy EVs are at speed.

I go down a cycle lane on a duel carriageway and the noise from EVs is worse than other cars at 60mph.
Is it the weight or harder tyres ?

There very quiet at low speed though and creep up on you.

I can tell it’s EV by the green on the plate.
Most EV's are originally spec'ed with XL tyres. If you don't replace them XL tyres you risk an insurance claim potentially being refused on the grounds of not up to spec.
Just in case you think it wont't happen, it has already.

The noise from the tyres are related to the low rolling resistance construction.. xl is common a standard (sl) is an old specification.. new coming is HL which is even higher load.

But on another note we did a holiday week down in Exeter and it was absolutely painless with the charging !

Following on from my first bill where I was paid more export than usage this billing period has started with a nice 50% off charging and battery tonight. So I'm using as much battery as I can now to maximise the energy at 3.5p a unit.. excellent weather tomorrow so will turn a tidy profit

Wasn't going to charge but might aswell to unlock half price
